Powerloss!!!!! Searched

Soooooo This Is What Ive Found Out....

Alittle While Back I Wrote About My Car Losing Power While Im Driving And It Wont Rev Past 2 Grand When Im Flooring It, But When I Turn It Off And Turn My Car Back On It Goes Away. Some Times It Wont Do It Agian For The Rest Of The Day Some Times Itll Do It Like 20 Times In A Hour.

Now With That Being Said, Some Of You Said To Do A Diagnostics Test And I Did And No Immidate Faliures Came Up. Them Some One Suggested Its A Clogged Cat, So I Got A Brandnew Exhaustt System, 3 Inch From The Header To A 3 Inch In/out, Flowmaster 40 Series With Some More 3 Inch Piping To A Megan Mn1 3 Inch In 4 Inch Out Muffler.

I Thought This Would Get Rid Of It For Sure. But Surprise Surprise, It Didnt.

Them Some People Suggested Getting A Full 60k Tune Up, When I Bought The Car, It Already Had One Done.

But Lately Ive Noticed My Car Doing This Only In The Day Time When Its Hot. I Drive To Work In The Morninglike Around 8 - 10 At The Latest, And It Doesnt Happen, I Drive Home At Like 6 - 8 And It Doesnt Happen. But When Ever I Drive It During The Day And It Like 85 Out, My Cars Not Having It. Another Thing Ive Noticed Is That When This Does Happen, My Tranny Gets Kinda Toasty.

Someone Please Help Me. Im So Lost And I Dont Know What To Do.

the moving part of the TPS is getting stuck (not moving forward-back... or in-out if you want). put grease/wd-40 if you want. that's what i did and never gave me problems from then on.

I think that what you should have done in the beginning- and definitely what you should do now- is quit throwing money at the problem based on guesses and find a qualified mechanic and throw money at him (or her).

Paying for experience is almost always worth the investment.

What makes you think you can properly adjust a TPS if you don't even know what/where it is?

Tps is that connector on the throttle body. It reads the position of the throttle plate and how far down you pushing the gas pedal. Among other things.

I would honestly check signal voltage going to it. Should be 5v. If you have voltage but no reference back to the pcm, or crappy wierd voltage that doesn't change with throttle position, than it's the tps....

or it's just sticking like that guy said. lol

I was going to say that your tranny may be messed up but you the indicated that you have a manual... I sometimes have to slam my tranny into drive or I have pretty much the same problem you just described... But mine is auto...

Not sure if it has or would have anything to do with your power loss but i would be checking my trany oil level. I know that the frist rx7 we had the shifter would get hot when you ran it for any lenth of time and we found that oil level in it was way down.

The money you spend on the exhaust would almost certainly have paid for a mechanic to properly diagnose and repair the original problem.

Its worth figuring out and fixing yourself if you are at all mechanically inclined... Most mechanics arent going to know how to fix an RX-7... Most I have talked to have completely declined working on them... Buy the little book at autozone... Look up the online manual and us it to figure out where things are... If you cant fix it yourself then you are probably better off with out it...

Of course everything stated above is just my opinion... Others may not agree but I am entited to regarless... Good luck... I hope you get it fixed...

Note that in my original post I wrote "qualified mechanic" and yes, they can be tough to find, but when you do their experience can save huge amounts of wasted time and money.
I consider myself mechanically adept but upon purchasing the RX did not hesitate to hunt down someone with experience to guide me through the evaluation/diagnosis of my car. His (actually there are two of 'em) opinions and help have made my life considerably simpler (as I try to educate myself through forii such as this).

Especially vexing are issues that have multiple/intertwined root causes. Sometimes it's not just a "Viola! Look at that frayed wire!" fix but instead, tweak here, tweak there, tighten this and replace this to get the problem solved.

That's where the sheer force of experience pays off.

Being self reliant is all well and good but until you reach that lofty plateau knowing what you don't know and admitting it is the smartest (and cheapest) play.
