power steering, to pull or not.

I have a 90 with power steering. Ive already done some lightening and Im down to the PS. I have an 86 with the manual rack, which is nice. BUT I also kinda like the PS. Im gonna use the 90 for autoX and driftsessions. The car isnt registed or insured so I havent really had a chance to really find out how helpful/harmful the PS system is. I can get a hold of a man rack with the brackets for free. Not sure if its worth the work.

damn I'd do it if I had a manual rack, then in the winter I'll take my a/c off plus that big heavy bracket, I'd go for it if I were you, sure you get a little work out in parking lots, but the ease of drifting makes up for it

I did it to my TII and love it, the manual rack is closer ratio and you can feel the road much better. I'd do it.

I had no ps on my 83 which only weighed 2400lbs and has 185 tires and If the car was heavier or the tires were thickier I would really have wanted PS. And no Im not weak!

I would keep the ps. On my 88 t2 i plan on cutting parts of the ps/ac braket off or drilling holes to lighten it.

Same here. I had mine converted to a manual rack because I didn't want to pay the big bucks to replace my broken PS pump. I like it so much that I wish I had replaced it sooner.

BTW, I'm a wimp, and have no problem steering the manual rack.

I'd do it. I have drive both power and manual steered FCs, and I would NEVER willingly go to power. The manual rack is just so well balanced, and there is basically nothing that can go wrong with it.
