Power steering not working (searched, poorly?)

I tried searching, basically telling me that the steering hub may be the problem for the power steering not working.

1991 rx7, pump doesn't whine or anything. Just doesn't "turn on"

Before I switch another pump in i'd like to figure out if the hub+steering wheel that came with the car is causing the problem? Also I am unfamiliar on how to check the power steering computer, the car doesnt beep. :S

If the turn signals work properly, the hub is fine.

Don't bother with the pump till you figure out why the T/S aren't right.

turn signals arnt cancelling due to cheap chinese hub that previous owner put on. This should have killed the power steering. When the angle sensor isnt working it reverts to p/s allways on (or so i have read)

SO unless its stuck off, i'll be trying to replace the pump :S

I don't understand.
Presumably, you've replaced the "cheap Chinese hub", so why don't the signals work?
The steering angle sensor not only controls the TS cancelling but also tells the PS when to kick in.
Until you figure this out, the pump isn't going to matter.

check under the hub to see if that plastic spring sensor is there or installed correctly. even the crappiest hubs support this and the previous owner could have just slapped it on there.

What are my options if this sensor is "mashed up" or MIA? This is an s5 GXL. I'm hoping s4 parts work as my friend has a plethora of s4 rx7s in his back yard :P

This is for my drift car. If there is a way to bypass this sensor and hardwire the power steering pump to be on all the time this would be appreciated. Signal cancellation is not a priority.
