Power Steering Instalation questions

Did searches - couldn't locate any info.

I have a 1987 Turbo II, i saw that p/s was an option in the 87 TII.

If i had a donor car, with p/s - what would the difficulty be in adding p/s were there previously had been none?

what would the task consist of? Any help would be apreciated.

Many thanks

~Erik

Pulling the rack itself is not hard, but one of the tie rods is different length IIRC between the two versions...So make sure you obtain damn good measurements so your front end alignment is at least in the ballpark, after you install the new unit...

Then, of course, you'll need all the tubing & hoses, mounting brackets, and steering computer from the other car ...The wiring should have been installed at the factory for the PS switch, so that shouldn't be a problem...

Much easier to go from power to manual than the other way around...

All I had to do to pull mine (power steering rack "made" manual) was remove the belly pan, the sway bar, remove the radiator bolts & push it up about 2", and remove the rack itself (6 bolts IIRC, 14mm)...Didn't even have to remove the tie rods or rod ends, snake it out towards the driver's side of the car...

....you're wanting to *add* p/s? Wow... thats odd, after all that time I spent preparing to swap to a manual rack. I didn't really think anyone ever wanted to go to power stearing...

wayne can I still use my cars tie rod or do I have to get one that came w/ ps? Also, didn't some FC's come with variable speed sensing ps like on S5's? How does that come into play?

Double check me on this, but I think the right-side tie rod length coming out of the rack is shorter on one version (or left?), so you'll have to use the entire PS rack from the other car- don't break any jam nuts loose if you can help it on the rod ends. It'll all come out of the car as one piece if you "play" with it a little...

Don't know about the speed-sensing stuff...
