power steering help

I have a power steering fluid leak. I have not fund the source yet. I have a question about the leak though.

If the fluid completely runs out and I keep driving normally will there be any damage to the power steering pump or components that make it work? Or can I just add fluid again and everything will work as supposed to until it gets low again?

If just adding fluid can fix it, how hard is it to find the cause of the leak and fix it?
Thank you

It might just be a seal. Not sure how easy that would be to find or fix, i just took mine off when it stopped working. Id tend to say that if the part is designed to have fluid in it, that running it without fluid would be bad. If trying to salvage a possibly broken pump is important tto you then id keep throwing cheap fluid at it and not let it get really low. However, theres a good chance the pump is already done, thus the leak, and you should just source a new one.
