Power steering conversion ??

Is it a deceptively easy as it looks?

My 86 has manual steering, and looking at the T2 I was ganking interior parts form today, noticed the power steering rack, lines, and pump might just be an easy swap. Anyone done this? Mounting the pump will be no problem.

You may run into trouble when you go to plug the electrical stuff up. I thought I read something about it. May have been an a/c retrofit deal, can't remember for sure. Something to look into though.

I don't think it's worth the trouble in the least. I've driven a non power 2nd gen and it was hardly noticeable, effort-wise speaking. As I remember it the feel was quite a bit better. I think my preference would be manual. Anything to help clean up the engine bay.

i have an 87 TII and when i first bought it i was thinking of doing this but trust me keep the manual steering, it is so much more responsive than power steering.. the only down side is parking but you will get used to it.. I researched and it can be done but it will cost more money and time than it is worth.. If i were you i would keep it and go auto X it is so sweet feeling the road in your hands

Engine bay is pretty clean already, it just feels like im steering like a car that has power steering, and no pump hooked up.

NO way, the automatic with the B&M shifter on a 4 speed tranny, shifts a lot better than I can! That auto tranny is bulletproof.

So, I gank the pwer steering from the T2 today, becuase my manual steering is harder than I though it should be. Turns out ther s a power steering rack IN the car already, It had a power rack all along, the previous owner just crimped off the lines and drove it around that way! So, I guess I'll just put a REAL manual steering rack in there instead!
