Possible High Idle

I'm band new to having an RX7 so I apologize for any stupid questions I may ask. I just bought a 1991 FC3S convertable and I've notice the past week that in the cold mornings and I start the car it will rev up to 3000rpm. Then when I shift into gear it will drop back to 1000rpm. Is this a high idle problem or is this something that the rotary engines just do to warm up? Once again I apologize for any stupid questions I may ask in the future.

First of all, congratulations on your recent purchase. You're going to love your car. To answer your question, that is the way rx7s warm up. There is an automatice warm up system that, when cold, will raise the engines speed to 3000rpm for about 20 seconds, then it drops to about 2000 and will work its way to 750. Is it idling at 1000 with no accessories after the engine has fully warmed up?

If you want to bypass that system for fear of straining the engine too much when it's cold, leave your car in gear when you start it up. It shouldn't climb to 3000 if you do that.

Awlsome! Thanks for the info. I already love the car and I'm enjoying it more than my old 240sx
