Possible blown engine...Questions about symptoms

Ok...here's the deal...

I boosted about 7.5 psi coming on to the freeway...shifted from 4th to 5th...almost immediately felt a loss in power. lots of hesitation outta nowhere. It almost felt like an intake leak or something. I pulled over to check for leaks but the car was idling at a rock solid 1000 rpms. but...it didn't sound smooth at all. instead of a smooth idle, it was going "rarrarrarrarrarr"...

So...I decided to keep driving, seeing as how I was about 30 miles from home. I have a decent amount of power between 1st and 3rd gear...but once I hit 4th and 5th, it bogs down. after about 15 miles, I pulled into another gas station and noticed no real change in the way the car ran. It decellerates real smoothly but accelleration is kinda lumpy. I also noticed that the turbo hotside is glowing. I've never seen my turbo glow like that before....even after boosting hard.

I recently did the rats nest removal and swapped my injectors over to cleaner 550s.

The thing is, i've popped an apex seal before, and it didn't feel this way. the first time I blew my engine, the car was vibrating to ****. this time, I feel no additional vibration or anything....bizzare...

So...after hearing my story, what do you guys think? Could it be my injectors sticking open or closed? Maybe my turbo is fubared? crazy vaccum leak after the TB?

i always heard it described as the shake of death. There are lots of other reasons why you could be losing power though, like a collapsed cat, clogged fuel pump, or large vacuum leak. My suggestion would be to do a poor mans compression check and see how that turns out.

yeah...I figured that I'd do the poor mans compression test in the mornin.
I have no cat, and I highly doubt that my fuel pump would be clogged....but...I guess it's possible...

Hot exhaust, sluggish accel...
Is it acting like the timing is retarded? Maybe your leading coil took a ****?

^ No problem bro...

my car did the same thing for a while not too long ago until I swapped out the injectors and found vaccum leaks under the plenum. You were there while karack and I were bustin *** on my car...

I say that your car has a few vaccum leaks or something. Check for those and ****. As far as teh smoke is concerned, it could be oil and fuel...or coolant and fuel....
or...it could just be the usual burnoff on startup that i've seen on most FCs...

what shape are your spark plugs in? they could be worn down enough that they're not producing a strong enough spark, which could lead to hesitation.

honestly this poped in my mind because u just messed with the injectors, but on my s13 when a injector went out it would decelerate smooth and healthy but when trying to accelerate it was just as u describe it... loss of power and kinda a shudder or something... also it would idle but it wasnt as smooth as when all 4 were working... just sa thought

Ok...UPDATE!

The injectors....were fine...

The coils....were fine....

No vaccum leaks....

The only thing I came across was when i was doing the poor mans compression test, the front rotor only had one strong pulse with two smaller ones. the rear rotor was fine with 3 strong pulses. I'm going to do a real compression test tomorrow after work.

It looks like a low compression issue....so far...

I have had this happen before to a buddy of mines FC same thing but he caused his with NoS. At idle he got a top fuel dragster kinda idle **** then when you drive it and give it gas it would smooth out at higher Rpms cause turned out to be Front housing was missing a apex seal it spit it right out the exhaust and didnt chew anythign else up. Motor ran like that for about 3 weeks afterwards and was done for due to the fact we knew it was blown so we shot a 100 shot into it and gunned the **** out of it. But point being motor sounds blown to me man sorry bout the bad news.

sounds like exactly what hapened to mine, except it wouldnt accelerate, it slowly smoothely just fell through the revs and died. now i cant that **** started. i did the poor man's compresssion check and got a steady 25psi in the back rotor, and nothing in the front rotor. and now it wont even turn on. does your car turn on?
