could always just port your motor...it will eat up the boost before it has a chance to creep :]

Set to natural wastegate boost by bypassing stock boost controller.

There is no stock boost controller on an S4 TII. That would be the turbo duty solenoid on an S5 TII you're thinking of. Even then, if the wastegate can't flow enough, removing a boost controller won't help.

It can, just not necessarily. After I ported my waste gate to 30mm I connected the controller I have and went for a drive. Even at its lowest setting I was hitting way too much boost. I took it off, hooking it up like stock, and drove some more. Boost was much more behaved.

What kind of controller are you using? MBC, EBC?

Was using an MBC. Cheap, but decent design for what it is. Considering my boost reaches right about what I want it at without it I'm not too put out in that regard.

If boost wasn't behaving with the MBC in, the minimum setting must not be fully open. The ball-and-spring types will let boost build quickly before the threshold is reached, so I guess it makes sense that a spike is more likely. The wastegate spends a lot of time completely shut. The bleeder types on the other hand should allow you to turn them all the way down to stock boost levels.
