New plugs can smooth out minor misfires at idle.

It could also be your timing is retarded and needs to be put back in factory spec.

i would suspect a leaking exhaust and you mentioned that a possibility in a different thread. new gaskets would probably fix it but note all possibilities before spending money on something that may not do the job

Had something similar when I was trying to get mine running

I had to readjust all of the idle components including the timing, also got the injectors cleaned..worked for me.

I think in my case I was trying to open up the idle way too much, not knowing my injectors weren't running very good so I wasn't getting good combustion

well put new plugs in the old ones looked almost rusty. not 100% sure if its still doing it didn't let it run long cause its 7 in the morning and a duel muffler cat back is still loud with stock exhaust. but on a side note. my clutch petal has more pressure now. only thing i did was. pull all the plug wires, disconnect my p/s hoses so i could get my arm in there a little better, and put it all back. but i'll post later after work with update. anyone think i should run injector cleaner again ran some thru as soon as i got the car only put prolly 1k-1.5k miles on it in 2-3 months. and i set my idle the other day to what it should be. it was popping before me setting idle just wanted my idle not 1500 anymore.

Check your wire ends and make sure that they are not corroded/rusted too. If they are, the will not make proper contact wit the plugs. Other than that, check your idle controls and see if you can see any exhaust leaks.

If you have mods all bets are off

all the various emissions, fuel, and exhaust components work together to make the car drive and idle like a "normal" car

This is true. You must tweak and twerk my son.

Borrow a wideband. That would be the FIRST thing i'd do. You're going turbo anyway so do one better and buy one. You can get them used fairly cheap.

I have all my emissions on my n/a deleted (s4, a bit more forgiving) and run a slightly cracked tb to keep my idle at 800-750. It pops no more than a usual rotary, not at all at idle. That sounds bad. Maybe your afm needs to be tweaked. (yes, you can do that. There's a how-to on youtube!).

edit: Your boss should be clubbed with a full grown pine tree for doing that to an s5 factory turbo car.
