poopies. another no start.

replaced the starter because it sounded like the solenoid wasnt kicking the gear out and the starter was just spinning. worked great 4 times, then the same thing. ****. so stay tuned for a possible install thread coming soon. planning on every part replaced including a dual force clutch, lightweight flywheel, aluminum driveshaft, the works. the thread will happen based on if i have enough left over to buy a camera.

yeah. it started just fine for a while, then started to click once in a while, like usually happens when a starter goes out. so i got a junkyard starter that was tested good and came with a 1 year warranty. worked great for a while then one day when you turned the key it just sounded like the starter was freewheeling. it was a bit odd sounding but i didnt think of it at the time. got another tested warrantied junkyard starter, worked fine for 4 starts then started doing the same thing.

now that i think about it maybe theres an issue with the flywheel. i dunno i took a peek at it when i replaced the transmission and it looked fine. some nicks and scratches in the teeth but they were all there and pretty decent. but it must be just worn enough so the starter teeth barely cant catch it.

You could just have very bad luck with starters. If there was an issue with the flywheel you would know about it when driving / shifting. I would check your connections and make sure they are solid. Otherwise I would buy a new (not junkyard) starter.

drivetrain issues are kind of my weakness.

both times ive had to push start it recently theres a nasty metal scraping noise that goes away after a block or so. seems to be related to that area. also humming/squeaking while not in gear and not pressing on clutch pedal. that scraping noise has been there for a while. it used to only happen in reverse before, then i did a couple donuts in a parking lot, the scraping got way worse in every gear for a little bit then went away completely. that was before the trasmission was swapped. after the swap it wasnt really there at all except it has come back when the car is push started. any other thoughts?

Is this about the whole "click when turning key..then it will work after about 5-10 tries"? If so, there are a couple writeups around the site that fixes this.

just bench tested the first starter that i took out last time, works like a charm. still leaning toward a flywheel issue.
