POLL.... FC clutch pressure?

Interested in finding out if my clutch pressure is normal for my FC. I wouldnt say its TOO soft or spongy, but its not " snap back firm" either.... any thoughts? Should it be nice and firm or a bit soft? The car is 88 ( 5 speed swap) which is to say not at all to mazda spec.

thanks

should be fairly easy because its hydraulic. shouldnt be too firm though. it should however, snap up from the floor. perhaps not so much of a snap up as a spring up. but its not like a clutch in an older 5.0 fox body mustang. those can be very stiff. they are however cable operated. if in doubt, check the hydraulic system for leaks and re-bleed the clutch hydraulic system. if you have old or used components or a crappy slave cylinder hose, you will also get a spongy clutch.

yeah check for leaks and also maybe have somone look at the slave as u depress the clutch pedal and see if there is free movement there... could be a possible air bubble or a bad slave...

if u end up needing a slave I have them in stock for 45.00 shipped BRAND NEW!

good luck keep us informed!

The stock clutch IMO feels too light... and the clamping force leaves a lot to be desired, even with a stock NA engine (then again mine might be glazed or something).

make sure you get a 1-man bleeder kit, otherwise its too much of a pain in the ***

that said, you need a friend to watch the master cylinder resevoir for you

if not, you can bleed it yourself without the kit. but check the condition of the components and post back what you find. before you go and bleed it, make sure you have good components.

My clutch actually began slipping. I think I have clutch issues since I replaced my tranny,
in the first days everything was fine but than my clutch pedal went deeper and deeper.
I readjusted the pedal from inside and now my clutch slips went hitting about 6-7 psi
but I still have a bit pedal play...

yeah , i bled it with friend after replacing the slave line with a steel braided one from Corksport, i guess it coiuld be normal... but that doesnt change the fact that I WANT it stiffer. OH well, ill bleed it one more time and call it a day.... its also a pretty new clutch and P plate.... One last thing, ive jacked with the the pedal height a billion times, with the adjuster bolt at the top of the pedal, just to find that great shifting spot, but i cant imagine that that would mess with my pressure?

^^^ it shouldnt.
make sure, when the pedal is released, the slave pushrod could be pushed in.

i think if you make a couple brackets, you could probably convert it to cable clutch, should feel a little bit better???

Have you checked that the release cylinder isn't leaking? It happened to me this past Thursday night and almost stranded me two hours from home.

If you play with the height of the pedal, that will only make the clutch not release as much as before since now you have less travel then before (if you lowered the pedal). The Clutch will still come off the fly but if you adjust the pedal to much, it just may slip on the fly.

The clutch pedal, the way its design and hinges and depending on how strong your legs are, you will think its soft even with a hi pressure clutch in there. I have a PP step up from OEM. One of those street strip ones. It was on the motor when i got it so i don't know what brand, but I feel little to no diff in pedal stiffness.

Its the clamping force you need to worry about, not how hard it is to release the clutch from the fly.
