polished throttle body pics...

i saw somewhere on here someone ported a 13B intake and a 20B intake throttle body to a mirror finish... i was looking for that pics because i was going to do a better job on mine.. after the removal of the 2nd set of plates can u mill down the inside so it doesnt nessarely have the 3 holes for the plates so its more like one big hole? i would think this would work better... comments? and i would love to see the pics.. hopefully someone saved them to their computer.. thanks

it scares me to start grinding away at the intake manifolds. Does anyone do this?

I personnaly would stay away from a "MIRROR" finish in the Intake tract.

To quote David Vizard ( an engine building genius)
"Polishing of ports is a favorite pastime, but polishing ports does little or nothing to improve flow. A smooth, cast finish will normally flow within a hair's breadth of the figures produced by a highly polished port. In practice it is sometimes found that highly polished ports cause problems in terms of fuel puddling and therfor may not, in some instances, produce the results being sought. What is important for an effective cylinder is shape. A ground finish the right shape will produce HP, A polished finish the wrong shape will not."

Even though this was written regarding cylinder heads for boingers, the flow principles involved directly pertain to intake manifolds.

He's right about there being minimal difference in flow, but his fuel puddling comment only refers to carb'd engines. With EFI fuel is injected right before the port, so this is not a concern.

True, I didn't want to detract from the quote. I was only describing the dynamics. Thanks John

Just get a mustang TB. Single plate TB, and a hell of a lot easier.

I dunno how you would just make "one big hole..."

Has anyone actually proved these flow better? We've got a pretty big TB y'know.

ok, does anyone know if i have to remove the fuel rail to get this out because it seems like the bottom of the TB hits on its way out...

Not my arguement. I'm saying getting a single-bore TB and making it bolt on is a HELL of a lot easier than trying to turn a 3-bore pattern into a single bore.

As for flow... if I were to add a mustang TB, I'd use a 90MM single bore plate. Yes, this flows better, no question.

I totally agree, trying to mod the stock TB in this way would be silly. I was just curious about the Mustang TB, because it gets mentioned occasionally, but no-one ever says "I tested it and here are the results", it's always just speculation. What Mustang comes with a 90mm throttle? That's huge!

I'm gonna try swapping the thorttle bodies on my 20B, and I'll post the results, with dyno graphs, in about 6-8 months or so.

90mm is the Pro 5.0 throttle body, dunno who makes it, but I could find out.

Stock is 65mm or so...

Ah, I see, aftermarket. I've heard people claim the 65mm unit would be an upgrade, but I'm dead certain it'd flow less!
