plz help me with RX-7 engine problem

Hi, my friend has an RX-7 he bought of his dad's frined who had 2 RX-7's. He had a 87 and 90 RX-7 and he sold the 90 RX-7 to my frined, but he used the 90 RX-7 for parts for his other one. Now here is our problem. We wanna get this car starting but we don't know what we need put back into the engine. We know we need an alternator, but on the left and right sides, beside the shock mounts, there are some cables dangling, but when we checked out other RX-7's there were some electrical componenents hooked up there.

I got pictures enclosed of his engine bay, so if anybody could help us out, that would be greatly apprecialted.

thanks

I know, the pics are pretty bad, but look above each headlight on the pics. on the last pic, above the left headlight, you see the mazda air box, then above the air box you see some cables loose and dangling, those are noramlly connected to something, just like the other side but above the right headlight you see the same, you see something that connects to, and some cables.

Hmm.... can't tell exactly what you're talking about, but if by cables hanging above the airbox (above in real space, or above in the picture (which would translate to 'behind' in real space)?). If you mean behind, like up against the firewall almost, my GXL has a cable which runs from the cruise control to the throttlebody. If you mean those connectors just barely behind the airbox, those go to the pressure sensor which is absent (have to get one off a parts car... cost me $20 to replace mine). You also appear to be missing your battery, which is pretty important. Good luck, and if you can take more pictures (closer in to the shock towers where the wires are dangling) that would be helpful.

Eric

If you get stuck, let me know. We can get together and figure it out.

Thanks, I'm gonna keep trying to figure and find the parts for it, but were also looking for another RX-7 engine if anybody has one, in working condition.

I'll try to get better res pics, of the engine and strut towers.

The cover on the CAS looks to be missing, might want to find it or clean that before attempting to use it. Can you get us some more pictures? Preferable from the passanger & drivers side of the engine, pretty close in? It's kind of hard to see the wiring from those standpoints, but as was mentioned above. Alternator, TPS, pressure sensor, trailing coils, CAS cover, belts (obviously) that's all I can see from the pictures.

The white 6-position plug by the shock towers is for the auto-adjusting suspension, which was only on the GXL, but they ran the wires on most 2nd gens anyhow. It's supposed to be like that, and that's cool.

The 2-wire yellow plug by the passenger shock tower is the fuel pump check connector, and that's cool as-is.

By the driver's side headlight are some green connectors - these are check/test connectors, and are cool.

You are missing the throttle position sensor (TPS) on the throttle body and the boost sensor that goes on the passenger side shock tower, as someone else determined. The boost sensor will be easy to find, but the TPS has to be an '89-91 non-turbo TPS, and they can be tricky to find used. They're quite pricey new.

Anyhow, you really don't have *that* much stuff missing, all things considered, but it will be an uphill battle.

Dale
