Unhappy Please Please Help Me!!!!!

Here is my problem I just put a new clutch in and the clutch is working fine but the I drive it down the road and the tach starts going crazy then it just shuts off (goes to zero) and the check engine light comes on and the car starts running really really ruff. I end up having to pull over and shut it off and start it again and about a min after I have to do the same thing again. Now I can here this clicking noise under the driver side dash (don't know what that is about) . I was wondering if the four wires at the back of the tranny could be causing this. I have about 5 hours to get this fixed tomorrow and drive back to VA or I will be in really deep ****. Some of the guys around here say it could be a bad ground on the ECU or the ECU itself could be bad but everything was working fine before I took the tranny out. here is what I have done to my car racing beat turbo back exhaust, bonez intake, walbro fuel pump, racing beat FCD and by the way it is a 91' Turbo II

I honestly don't know exactly... but I am definately leaning towards sensor/electrical.

Can you get the motor warmed up? Does it do the same thing there?

I would rip the carpet off the ECU (passenger side floor) and make sure the plug is ok, and maybe run a ground there (get the pins from fc3s.com, the how-to section)

Run another ground from the engine to the firewall..

Did you check the engine code? Maybe your AFM is getting stuck!? (though wouldn't explain tach)

Geez, I know the feeling you're in man, having to work on your only car really sucks. Especially when you are lost about something!

it might be a bad ground, i know when my battery dies and i jump it, the car runs like that..the tach starts going crazy and it runs really bad. But it can't be a dead batery because you said you started it.

I had the same exact problem. It is one of two things:A bad ground from the trailing coil to the frame, or (I can almost guarantee it is this one) a bad engine to firewall ground. When they took out your tranny to do the clutch, they probally forgot to remove this ground. It goes from the back on the engine, right near where the tranny and back of the engine meet. It connects to a bolt there all by it's lonesome, and goes up to the firewall. It attatches to the firewall via a male connector on the firewall, and a female on the wire. The wire is 14 gauge, and is about 6-8 inches long. The bolt that it connects to is a 10mm on right next to the bracket you use when you pull the engine. I hope my shitty description helps, b/c I have no digital camera!! I fried mine, and the same problems kept happening until I replaced the wire!!!
