Please identify this part...

Could someone please help me identify the little black box with the hose running to it? I found it broken last night when I was putting on the new alternator. I've been trying to figure it out on my own but so far no luck and I'm running out of daylight and open parts stores...

Thanks!

Looks to me like a rat's nest soleniod. Looks as if the nest was removed and the solenoid was retained in order for fuel pressure to increase with hot starts? I can't remember..

From what I've been able to find this might be the EGR Solenoid Valve. Does that sound correct?

Thanks. I've removed it from the vehicle and am searching for a replacement. In the meantime, I took the advice of another post here and plugged both vac lines that were running to it. This is a daily driver. Aside from running rough and a change in mpg, are there any effects I should be worried about?

Thanks again.

You can drill the broken end out a bit and fiberglass a short length of 3/16" copper tubing in place of the broken nipple. That is, if you can't find a used one, or don't want to pay the price of a new one.

That explains why the color wasn't right for the boost solenoid!

it shouldn't run rough or lose mileage, disconnecting it should just disable the EGR and have the inverse affect..
