Sounds like electrical. The backfire is the raw fuel igniting in the exhaust sytem. If it were a fuel delivery problem, there would be no fuel to ignite.

sounds like bad battery connections and maybe the alternator charging wire. if the voltage went below like 12 volts all the warning lights would come on. are the warning lights coming on?

Umm dood that is exsactly what I asked him.

If the ALT was bad it would be bad. If it is bad the car wont stay runing when batt dies and he will have to charge it to start car or go anywhere. If bad battory then it wont start b/c no power but will not efect warning lights as when runing ALT will controll them.

i had problems with my battery connections a little while ago. the car would start, but once you moved, it would cut off and then cut back on again while driving, jerking the car violently. turned out just to be a bad battery connection (positive). make sure you clean the terminals and posts, and then make sure the terminals are making a good connection.
