Question vert vs. normal fc

I'm currently in the search for an rx7 and am wondering which is better in the end, a vert or a normal fc. I plan to tune my car and take it to track days, but I will also likely take it on long drives through desert climates, so going either way has a plus for me.

well the vert is quite a bit heavier than the coupe and lacks power, espically the automatic tranny vert. however out of the box the vert has a great suspension, a bit better than the coupes from what ive read and experienced, i have both cars so i can compare. a coupe can be made a bit faster and has more rigidity. so it depends on what your looking for. if you dont mind the slow lane get a vert but if your serious about track time or competition go for the coupe, try to find one with the stiffer suspension and upgraded brakes(4 piston front calipers and vented rear discs.)

i hate verts, not the fc vert, just any droptop, i would go for the coupe perosnally. Well personally iw ould go for a Turbo II, but thats just me....

Don't get a vert. First of all most of their tops are ruined, and need to be replaced. They're also fat pigs, much heavier than a coupe. And thirdly it sucks to be driving down the road with your top down and a sprinkler smacks you across the fast with reclaimed water.

I prefer a coupe over a vert any day of the week

go vert all the way, I'm in the process of making a fiberglass hardtop for my vert. It won't be a vert though when I am done with it. It will be a fastback targa. I put the back window at a slight angle than just verticle. Its about 1 foot back from the seats. Kinda like a silvia truck conversion

I've been hit with a sprinkler in a coupe and a rip in a top that is 16 years old should be understandable..... the vert makes better autocross cars than the coupe. Do you even own a vert 7 or driven one?

Depends on what kinda track you are talking about. If you mean the drag strip....go with a coupe...NHRA regulations are harder on verts. If you are autocrossing , the vert...way better handling and stronger subframe as an N/A car. The desert thing? Well, if its hot cool air a vert, if its hot dry air...a coupe.

Yes, I have driven a vert. And when I was driving it I was hit in the face with reclaimed water by a sprinkler. lol. That's why I made that point.

Get a coupe except if you love open air. Vert is heavy and that's pretty disadvantage when you want to go fast.

I don't intend to start a flame war, but I think the vert is plain ugly. The top of the coupe really completes the RX-7 lines. The vert looks like a bathtub with wheels IMHO.

after owning both check sig, when ur in the vert with the targa off or the top down people look twice, in my coupe everyone thought i had sum old 944 porsche, in my vert everytime i go to the beach i get smiles from the ladies.

WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING? A) the vert is heavier B) the chassis flexes more than a coupe C) and it's more dangerous.

I'm not saying they don't perform, but if i had to choose between coupe or vert, it's an easy choice.

For a long trip sports/cruiser i would choose the drop top.

and yes i've autocrossed a vert! and have had 3 TII's

I own a vert and have to say that it's much slower then the comparable coupe. As for the chassis flex, it actually does. The massive subframe keeps it from happening; at least i've never noticed it. And with the top up you'll forget your in a vert. The hard targa top section is really cool.

i like vert, stiffer ride. i did a lot of weight reduction on my vert, it probably weighs about as much as a coupe now. And i learned from icemark that the vert has an intergraded rollbar when the top is up, so theoretically, youll be as safe as you would in a coup if you rolled

A N/A VERT HAS A STIFFER CHASIS VS. AN N/A RX7. with the exception of the GTUs. the Chasis flexs more when the top is down. No doubt.

Well the vert is a lot heavier, which makes it more sluggish in every category. Also usually noticably more expensive than a coupe. The vert is basically a luxury model, and a coupe is a sport model. The only thing a vert has better than coupes is wheels. Verts come from the factory with 11.5lb BBS wheels. Really nice.

The vert is going to be heavier of course. If you feel that the coupe is suppose to out perform a vert...you have issues. The vert has a hard suspension and 4 pistons calipers. The car has extra pounds no doubt.. If you going to compare a TII and a vert at the track, why is it no different than a TII vs an NA coupe. Where do u get the idea that the vert is suppose to live up to the TII.

the vert is a fun car...I doubt mazda had the idea that the vert would compete with its brothers.

Would you buy a Z06 or a Corvette convertible? They both offer different worlds.

A lot of people knock on the vert...however, most of you either never drove a vert or seen one. The vert was well built and compared with the other convertibles out in the market it does pretty well. I get pretty tired seeing coupes and TII.

The N/A coupe is not comparable to the ZO6, as the 7 'vert is to the 'vette 'verte. It would be an accurate comparison of the 7 'vert to the 'vette 'vert and the N/A coupe to the non-ZO6 'vette.

I have a '91 'vert and it is VERY fun to drive. It handles great, stops incredibly well (weight has nothing to do with stopping distance), and does accelerate well. It is a 5spd, with only exhaust mods, but it is not slow. Anyone saying "get used to the slow lane with a 'vert" is stupid, ignorant, and shouldn't be talking. Mine is not slow.

If you can find a 'vert for sale, buy it. You will absolutely love it.

every extra 100lbs is 1/10 sec. I have an 88 vert, and I've gotten it weigh'd, it was 3041lbs, A coupe might get to low 2700 depending on your model, but they do get up past 2800, so you don't loose that much performance. Swap a TII drivetrain so, you don't have the sh*tty 3.9. And the convertibles are just as rigid with the top up. With the top down it has a little flex, you can notic it, but still, drifting sideways with the top down, you can't beat that.
