I have just put my 86 gxl 2+2 in my shop now. the reason its in there is it overheats, im still suprized that it runs.
1. it leaks no water, it had plenty of water
2 i have replaced the water pump, thermostat, and radiator. i took the thermostat out to see if it was faulty. I ran it and it overheated just like before. water circulated just fine. no pluged lines, we back flushed it just to be sure
3 after i had ran it and it overheated (after every thing i did) i checked (after the engine was cool) for water and there was none!
i looked on the ground and there was no water on the ground.
i think that it is a blown waterjacket and i will need to replace the engine. i am ready to start taking the engine out.
befor I replace the engine i thought i should check the forum befor i did
i would really appreciate any input on the car that you would have about it. thanks

Fill the rad up
Open the lid
start the car
do you see bubbles or fluid spewing out? if so? start saving.
Check the reservoir when the rad is FULL. start the car. warm it up. do you see bubbles? fluid spewing out? if so? Start saving.
Lastly, fill the rad, drive around for five minutes. park for an hour. start. white smoke? Start saving.

Bubbles do not equal blown coolant seals!
With the car COLD, take off the rad cap and start it. Does coolant GEYSER out of that opening? No? Then the coolant seals are fine - start looking elsewhere for the cause of your problem.

My old radiator had the smallest leak you could imagine and I swapped it out and not I am at 1/5 of the guage and I drive stop and go in 100+ degree weather. Did you buy a MAZDA thermo? if not then you need one the generic ones suck donkey *****.

OUCH, White smoke = new engine
That sucks. I had this scare a while ago and it turned out to be the radiator cap was bad ,but I didn't have geyser coolant or white smoke.
My car would just puke coolant while the engine was off and I was away after running for a while.

The water seal channel broke on my center plate and I had the exact same symptoms as you. I knew what it was from the white smoke coming out the pipes. Here is where I am so far.
