Questions about paint and brake pads...

Okay, so I just got a car and it needs paint on the front bumper and the removable section of the hood vent. I know that my car is "brilliant black" but I don't know what it takes to paint these parts. What would I need to do a good job on it? I'm thinking maybe I could just sand it and have a shop paint it. If painting it myself is too difficult, then do I sand it down to the origional primer or do I sand past the primer down to the metal?

As far as the brake pads go, I am pretty sure I can do that myself but I figured I'd triple check. The car is an 88 with ABS. Will this affect changing the pads? If so, how? Also, as far as replacement pads go, how are these for regular driving: http://www.buybrakes.com/store/7343-D463MM

as always, thanks in advance.

dunno about the paint enough to recommend anything. as for the brake pads...basically rx7s have 2 variations that make a difference. single piston fronts calipers and 4 piston front calipers. you have a turbo 2 and therefore will have 4 piston front calipers (along gxl's, the 88gtu, verts, 89-90gtus and sport models?). those are what you need pads for.

oh..as for pads. i use hawk hps pads and i like them.

Paint is easy to do yourself, just sand with some fine paper and spray, then wet sand inbetween coats. You dont have to take it down to bare metal, just scuff the stock paint so the new stuff sticks to it.

You don't need to take it down to the metal! Except in the places that need dent repair. As long as the paint is in good condition,You only need to scuff the paint well.
Before you start sanding, clean the paint with soap and water, then a solivent. that way you don't get wax and nastiness ground in there so the new paint will stick. Get a book. the shop manual has a good refrence. do it right or you will regret it. I know. I've done it both ways. I definitly recomend the right way.
