Unhappy Please Help my TII...

Hey guys, i'm new to the forums and like everyone am having trouble with my 88 TII. here are my car specs. 1988 Anni. TII 105k miles. Orginal everything, never been mod'ed, so i'm told.

1st
after i bought the car, i had to drive it from vista down to SD. I'm assuming the car hasn't been driven in a while and when i parked it started to smoke, white smoke, but the smoke was coming from cat flange to exhaust. after shutting off the car, it hasn't done it since, but it still leads me to believe there is an exhaust leak.
FOLLOW UP... After examining my Cat i knoticed the heat sheild was saturated on the drivers side. My only guess is it's oil, either tranny oil or motor oil. I can't figure out how the oil is getting that far unless my turbo has blow by.

2nd
when driving the car, there are more vibriations than normal, car idles at ~700 rpms. but it does shake. Alot more than my friend's FDs. it only vibrates when in gear also.

3rd
Boost is really weird, 1st gear, no boost, at all.... according to stock gauge, 2nd sometimes gets boost, but usually it kicks in in 3rd to 5th. and starts boosting at about 4000rpms. and boost feels pretty weak at that. I'm not sure if its the waste gate being stuck open or something more serious. I checked the vacume lines and for from the top everything but one seems to be in the right place. One has a screw screwed into it. i checked both the repair manual and the shop manual and both doesn't say. i'll post pics later.

4th
the tranny shifts pretty poor, the synchros are out of wack, you can shift 1st and push it far left to the point where it gets stuck, 2nd is a pain to shift to. 4th also locks up some time. don't know if i should rebuild the tranny to or not.

I just changed my oil tonight, 20w-50, it was pretty black and a bit chalky, but not to bad. i also saw i have a small oil leak in the oil pan gasket.

My future plans are to rebuild the motor and port it. after that slap a nice size turbo on and find the best standalone and be done with this stuff. DO EVERYTHING AT ONCE.

Any help would be awesome. Please contact me anyway you can. Thanks guys.

Sincerly,
Will "BJ" Chin-Lee

Sounds like a vacum leak to me, check all your hoses for dry/cracked hoses, and hoses that arn't connected.

That one is easy, if it's an S4, which it is, you will need an M904(5) plate, and shift bushings. the plate thing is a big metal ring witha rubber center piece attached, it pulls over the shifter, and it's underneath all the shift boot rubber things.

What you describe is EXACTLY the same as when i got my 87 TII, First to second is almost like > right?

Try simple cheap fix i have stated above before you start thinking crazy expensive tranny rebuilding.

The oil under the car is pretty normal. oil pan/oil cooler and drips while driving and so it flows towards the rear. under the hood gets pretty hot and rubber just gets baked. replace the hose(s) that feel hard.. also maybe drain the transmission and add new fluid, it couldn't hurt.

The bushings are found at MazdaTrix.com or the dealer, less hassel at MazdaTrix because the dealer don't know sh** about your car. That may not fix your problem.

Don't spend the $ rebuilding your tranny. JDM FC RX7's are all turbo and there are alot of trannys available for around $250.

Sweet thanks guys, i'll look into the tranny bushings and plate, As for the hoses i plan on getting a set from hose techniques or using BMW silcone hoses, my friend uses those on his FD and they are soft as ****.

Update...
I recently added an exhaust, since i hated the way the stock ones looked and sounded. I put an Apexi N1 on, 3in piping, built in resonator. its nice a quite. well way more quite than my roommates FD with the N1.
I also decided to try out a theory of mine and ended up using my roommates old stock BOV for the FD. after installing it i found that my guess was right and the stock FC BOV was leaking. I can hear the turbo much louder now, and i can even hear the BOV blow off. The car is now able to boost in 1st and 2nd. tho i think there is plenty of stuff that still needs to be fixed i'm at least making progress.

Yah Dave at FC3S.org said the same thing about the vibrations, mostly likely bad motor mounts or tranny mounts...etc.
And Dr0x... don't worry i plan in finishing this project. I have plenty of friends with Rx-7s, All Motor FBs, Engine Fire FCs, Blow Motor'd FDs. So i know what i'm getting myself into.
