Please Help Me with my 1st rx-7!!!!
I have just recently purchased my first 1987 rx-7. The car runs, but the catalytic converter was taken off of the car. The problem that I am having seems to be that the car is not getting enough power. Could anyone maybe give me some suggestions???? Thanks.

Is the idle stable or rough? Is the car smoking? If so, what color is it and what does it smell like. Does it start ok? Also, invest in a Haynes manual. They are invaluable for these cars. Mine is actualy MIA at the moment, so I'm gonna have to locate a new one.

If this car is new to you then you should do a full 60k tune-up to it. That way you can know what kind of shape things are in.
Taken from the FAQ at the top of the 2nd gen section:
"Do a full 60K tune up, replacing all the fluids (including brake, clutch, tranny, engine oil, coolant, and rear end lube), spark plugs and cables, all filters (including fuel, oil and air), belts, any hoses that are leaking or bulging, and the O2 sensor. In addition if the car is more than 10 years old or has more than 120K miles on it, the Pulsation Dampener (or primary fuel rail and integrated Pulsation Dampener on 89-91 FCs) should be also replaced."
Also some other things that will not have the idle sitting right are:
1. Throttle Position Sensor. (TPS)
To set your TPS:
More info can be found here: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hlight=TPS+101
2. Your gas pedal cable slack.
3. Your cruise control cable slack.
As well as some more information about your car would help others figure out what is going on.

Adjusting the TPS is a simple maintenance item that should be preformed at any oil change. The benefits include better gas mileage, better performance and a smoother idle. Adjustment only takes a few minutes if you follow the directions below.
What You Need
· Ohmmeter
· Flathead Screwdriver
· Half an hour
How To Adjust
· Warm the car completely by driving for 20 minutes
· If your car is a turbo, remove the intercooler. Loosen the hose clamps on the inlet and outlet, remove the vacuum line, and then remove the four bolts (I believe 11 or 12MM). Lift off the cooler. Do this quickly so the car does not cool.
· Unplug the TPS. On 89+ cars, you want to unplug the connector leading from the lower TPS.
· Hold the TPS connector so the hump points up. Connect your meter between top connection and rightmost connection.
· Adjust the stop screw until the meter reads 1K (1000 Ohms)
· Plug the TPS back in
· If necessary, reinstall the intercooler. Don’t overtighten the hose clamps
· Drive the car for a few minutes, then repeat the procedure

I also wanted to know if this particular rx-7 MUST have dual exhaust or if it CAN just have one???...we do still have to replace the muffler(s)...the car just runs really rough, i guess...we can't tell really until the muffler is fixed to see how much quieter it is...but it does stay running. But I would say it runs rather rough.

Seems to me the first thing you want to look for is a vacum leak. that can cause a high/rough idle. That can also lean out the fuel/air mixture which will cause a weak/low power situation.
Pull the plugs and see what they look like, listen for any hissing in the engine compartmennt, and do an oil change.

if you car is a Turbo, yeah, you can get a single exhaust setup.
If you car isn't turbo, you CAN do the same, but the car would be so loud that you'd get tickets left and right. Best to keep it with two mufflers.
