Angry please, help me finish getting the diff. off!

ok, so i bought this 10thAE... it's a piecer, but it still has the differential on it. i have so far taken almost everything off and it is currently hanging down. do i HAVE to lower the sub frame a little. or can i just leave it there? because it would be a bitch for me to have to do that because my jackstands are holding it up. also, i have the driver's side of the diff. case off, but the passenger side is still caught a little on the screw and i can't get it off...

i am completely lost right now and any help would be appreciated.

I've always dropped the whole subframe. It is a lot easier. I've never tried to remove one with the subframe up. Just move the stands around and drop the whole section.
Not what you want to hear, but at least a reply.

Turbonut, so if i do drop the subframe(probably will) will the diff. just drop right out with it? i'm pretty sure i removed everything that was holding it up.

also, where could i put the stands? on the sides, under the doors?
thanks

You can use the frame rail but slowly apply the pressure to them. Mine dented a bit not nothing too bad.

The subframe is just a bitch to put back. The differential itself isn't connected to the subframe but is connected to the subframe mount whic is on the drivers side held in by 2 bolts(The stupidest design ever!Already broke once on my SE).

Sir Rupert, put the jack stands where you would put the factory jack. That's what I did. I used a piece of wood between the jack stand and the car to protect the rocker panel. When you drop the subframe and dif at the same time it all comes down as a unit. Put a jack under the dif to catch it all, but it's not super heavy. You may find that the subframe sticks or the dif on one of its bolts. Just work at it a bit. I had to use a crowbar on one side of the subframe. The dif is attached to the subframe up in the middle where you can't get to it unless you drop the whole thing. Make sure that mount is still good before you put it back. Oh, I assume you disconnected the drive shaft! Good luck!

I reccomend removing the subframe. I pulled mine without doing that, and it was a ROYAL PAIN (even moreso then removing the subframe!)

Besides, you _have_ to pull it to get the diff back on!

I hear your pain. I'm in the same exact situation ( just wrote a thread requesting help on this myself in fact ) and was given pretty much the same answer. I plan to do it this weekend, although I have a newer subframe to replace what I have with. If you get to it sooner, let us know how it went! For me the biggest bitch in the process looks to be getting my damn shocks off which are stuck as hell.

You can put a 2' section of 2x4 above the jack and use the rear floor pans as shown in a link in my thread (too lazy to find it now but do a search or look back a few days and you'll find it). I plan to do this as putting the jack right on the edge of the vehicle leaves a little too few inches for error there. I'm all about confidence when I'm the one under the 3000 lb. car.

Getting your shocks off? Thats more then you need to do for a diff pull! You dont need to totally REMOVE the subframe (Stupid choise of words in my last post) You only need to 'Lower' it.

The FSM tells you how to do it (iluvmyrx7.com)
