Please HELP with exhaust leak!!!!
OK, ever since i put my RB exhaust on i had a leak problem. I took it apart a few times to check everything out, and i didnt really see possible leaks problems(gaskets are in good shape). 2nd time i used a gasket sealer, and the damm leak was ever louder then before. Where can it be coming from? It sounds like a damm lawn mover!! it around the DP/turbo/mainifold area. Anyone have thins problem? thanx
I've never had an exhaust problem on TII. Can't you have the car running, on stands or rack, and listen and feel for leak? At least that would give you an indication where it's coming from.
Just a random idea but this might work to find it.
Start the car and pull a small vacuum hose that runs straight into the intake manifold. Then run that hose into a small container of motor oil, veg oil, or some sort of oil that will smoke like hell when the engine burns it.
So you will have large amounts of smoke rolling out of your exhaust. Now you maybe able to see where the leak is coming from. It might help to have a friend put a piece of cardboard against the tail pipes so the exhuast is forced to go out of your leak.
Now, I am not sure what this will do for you cat or o2 sensor. However, it is just a little bit of oil so it could not be that bad.

Take a tube or a hose of some type with a pretty big hole (1/4 - 3/8), and put one end in your ear and then explore around the DP area with the other. Works great to help pinpoint where it's coming from.
If it's been there ever since the new exhaust, is there a chance the DP flange wasn't flat?
The last exhaust leak I dealt with was on an S4 turbo between the mani & turbo where the gasket had nearly disintigrated in one spot. I'm using a pretty old DP gasket now (those things aren't cheap) and just waiting for it to develop a leak there.
Cheers

ya i heard of this method , dropping small amounts of oil into a vac line, but i was kinda worried of doing this, i though maybe someone migt of had the same problem. I did get under neath the car before and try listening to where it might come from but its really hard to tell, sounds like from everywhere, plus it gets so hot so quickly i cant really feel around as i tryed once and my hand started smoking as my skin was burning off
