please help with cd deck install, mostly figured out.thnx.

when i pulled the stock stereo from my gxl and saw all the clips i got a headache. the FAQ acted as an extra strength tylenol for me but...(forgive my electrical ignorance)...

my understanding is that all that is really needed for decent function is power from battery, acc. from ignition, ground, then hook up some speakers. power antenna is not a concern for me, neither is a remote function.

my plan is = butt connect the wires from stock configuration as laid out by the FAQ, to the wiring harness for my pioneer deh-16.

my question(s) = the 50x4 output of said cd deck seemingly will be too much for the 15 watt max for both front and rear speakers. do i just need to find better speakers.

how will the factory amp play a role in this installation, if at all.

if i am able to use the stock speakers how will the individual speaker amps play a role.

any precautions or advice or otherwise is greatly appreciated.

p.s. i am soooooo sick of the radio.

Remove the stock power amps and speakers, get new speakers and wire it up and enjoy. If you're going to the trouble of putting in a nice deck get some speakers, it's worth it.

I am almost finished with my stereo install, I removed the stock amps and installed 6 1/2" MB Quart woofers in the doors, GM/ Delco dome tweeters in the dash, and cut out the rear strut tower speaker plates for 6 1/2" coaxials (originally 4" speakers there) also a JVC double-din head unit ( iPod-ready and sat ready) with my iPod in the console. I also installed a Kenwood amp in one of my rear storage bins. So far it sounds excellent. A lot of newer head units sound good though without an amp, just invest in some new speakers.

fyi, the power antenna acts as a ground, and should just plug right in, so I would hook it up if I were you. also the last time I installed an aftermarket head unit in a car with a stock amp it made this loud whining noise over the music, and I couldn't get rid of it until I removed the amp. other than that you seem to be on the right track!

I bought an install kit (brand was Metra, but other brands make them). I bought it at Pep Boys (where I work). It came with all the brackets, screws and trim pieces and it looks almost like factory. If you want to hook up your power antenna (if it's electric) you will need to use a relay to send a ground signal to the antenna. Most head units don't send a ground signal, they send a +12v signal which won't work without the relay. As for grounds, do NOT use the antenna plug as your radio ground. It is not a sufficient ground and will usually cause whine noises and static noise. Also do not use the factory radio's ground wire for the same reason. Use the dash bracket bolt at the front of the console for grounding. If you install an amp, ground it somewhere close to the amp using a bolt on the car's body that isn't painted.

If you have your antenna hooked up correctly and you hear it's motor running but the mast doesn't go up or down, you can just replace the mast. It's not expensive and you can order one from Mazdatrix.

I just found the power, accelarate for ingnition, and ground wire. I rewired all the speakers, which made it easier for the install.
