Clutch options?

I am looking to replace the clutch on my 87 RX7 Turbo II and was wanting to know which clutch i should go with i am putting in a street port motor and figured that i should prob replace the clutch while im there. I also am considering replacing the flywheel. I just want get something good that will be capable of handling a lil bit more power than the stock clutch i seen a couple of clutches offered by grip force. and was wanting some guidance. thanks guys.

Spooled Up Racing is selling spec clutches for a really good price, i'd ask him what you should get, if its a stock turbo you probably wont see more than 250 HP for now so consider that while making your purchase.

I'm planning on going with an ACT extreme clutch with a street disc (not 4 or 6 puck) and a 9.5 lbs ACT flywheel (they make ones a little heavier too, 9.5 is really light)

you can't really go wrong with ACT, and they support way more torque then you'll probably ever make

I'm going to throw one on my car as soon as either I upgrade the turbo or I toast the stock clutch I have.

ACT are nice SPEC are great Exedy are very good ESPECIALLY if u need a stock clutch.. IMO I would use the SPEC. and go with a stage 2 clutch kit.. and then use the lightweight flywheel.

I got an ACT clutch... Z65-HDOO to be exact, with an Exedy street disc. I also have the ACT Prolite flywheel (9.9 lbs) and counterweight. Haven't gotten to use them yet... engine is out for rebuild, but I have been told that ACT clutches are great.

I just bought a stage 1 grip force clutch kit. I am not going to put it in for another couple of weeks though. I would like to know how it is if anyone has one.

Spec = reconditioned...

ACT for the win! I didnt have to move away from a full face organic ACT disk until I made 490 HP. Now I am on a 4-puck and I LOVE it!

Unfortunatly the warrenty doesn't cover them driving to your house and pulling the trans to swap in a new one after 9,000 miles...

So you make a statement saying "Spec = reconditioned" Than Spooled calls you out on it and your response is "Yawn, I don't care".
At least have the integrity to admit that you're wrong instead of trying to play it off like your better than Spooled.

LOL! Umm.. If you read my original post you would have seen the smilie I put there, which is generally an indication that I was being facetious. Maybe you missed that.

HOWEVER, there MIGHT be a reason all of us that make big HP numbers dont run SPEC clutches. Ever wonder why?

Second off, I am better then spooled. I dont litter every thread I participate in with "I can sell you blah blah blah.. for such a price", when he isnt even a vendor. Third, he didnt call me out, that would be impossible.

I think they have a smilie for people like you...

I run SPEC stage 2. PERFECT setup for what MOST people need.
HOWEVER, as J-Rat states, if you are getting your #s over 400, use ACT!
IF i ever get my torque up close to 400 i will switch.

If you were kidding then I apoligize. I think you know more than most that people come on here a lot and make false statements. People that don't know any better believe these untruths and end up damaging their cars, spreading more lies, and perpetuate misguided and sometimes ridiculas information.
It just gets under my skin how this happens all the time.

Your favorite Tool,
Brian

exedy twin plate. As long as you can put up with the rattles when the clutch pedal is pushed in.

Benefits are it is as light as the std clutch and gripps like mad
