please~! dumb question

please forgive the rx7 newbie, BUT:

im thinking very hard about buying an 86' n/a.

would i be silly to buy an n/a rx7?

i hear alot of people saying that it's a much better idea to just buy a T2...

how limited are my options with an n/a?
are they alot harder to get rid of?
power wise would i be screwed in the long run (larger investment over simply buying a T2)

how well do they respond to modifications?

again, sorry but i come from a long line of honda's..

looks like all the turbo 2 stuff (suspension, tranny, rear-end) can be swapped right in.. and 5lug conversions are easy enough to come by, but i'd still be down ~40hp.

how much $ are we talking to get it up to par with a turbo 2?

a good condition n/a for ~1000... should i jump on that?

I'd say get a NA too and then move on to a T2. You might take care of the T2 better after you learned about the rotary and after you pop the cherry on your NA!

I brought my '86 Sport down into the low 15's at 90-ish with only an exhaust and minor weight reduction (about $300 out of my pocket.) That's on par with a stock TII.

As soon as the TII modifies anything, forget about it.

N/A's are definately NOT a waste of money, they're the perfect learner's '7.

i was given an 86 base model, since then (about 3 months ago) ive dumped 3.5k into it. 5-lug swap, emissions removal, interior restoration, sick a$$ rims, cross drilled/slotted rotors, guages, full exuast/intake... rebuilt motor was already in it. i think its streetported. its got some kick and im happy with it. youll like the n/a... ide go for it

I think the N/A is fine. It seems around here, the locals are always rebuilding the turbo cars, where the N/A guys can go out and drive their cars. N/A seems more reliable to me. I will admit that I think the N/A needs about 50% more torque and horsepower to be perfect to me.

Using some of the logic on previous posts, you should first consider a bicycle as your primary form of transportation. Once you have gotten the used of using a machine to transport you from one location to another, get a car. However, you must first start with a POS piston car so you can truly appreciate all of the benefits and pitfalls of a rotary engine.

Seriously, if you see a TII in your future, get it now, don't wait. There is no requirement to be "broken in" on a an NA before you get a TII.

hey man i have an na and its a blast to drive, my only complaint is like others have mentioned-power. but i love watching the tach sing to 8k on a stock motor. speaking of which does anyone happen to know where i could pck up a t2 motor/tranny for a decent price? i dont care if its blown cuz i plan on building it before it goes in anywayz.
