Go to Autozone and use their rent-a-tool service. I think it is about $20 and when you bring the tool back, you get your money back. Hope this helps.

Neevosh and I are going to try using a generic puller this weekend on my pilot bearing. Apparently it just barely fits if you maker sure to tighten it down first so it doesn't slip. I'll let you know how it goes.

1. its metal
2. Its custom to these engines. Custom tools cost money, especially when there is a monopoly in manufacturing (only mazdaspped currently makes the tool).

Didn't fit on my car

So don't rely on just that option, better be safe than sorry!

The puller I rented from Autozone came with three different "heads."

Try a different store.

nor did it work for me,
i had to very carefully take a die grinder and take it out that way grinding it down until i could get the needle nose pliers on it and pull it out. I must say if you do this you must be VERY carefull not to grind into the eshaft!

what i did was find a wooden dowel or medal rod that is just small enough to get in with leaving minimal room between it and the pilot bearing. then what u wanna do is shove sometihhg in there. i used a candle, cut it up and shove the wax in there. then u hammer against the wax and it pushes the pilot bearing out. works beautifully.
