Angry Pilot bearing blues..

Ok im getting extremely angry, I got my new act clutch in the mail the other week and I noticed it came with a pilot bearing so I say to myself well the one in there works fine but what the hell I got a new one might as well put it in. So try to take the old one out, big problems soon arise. I break the bearing puller and then another one will not get the little bitch out, but it did manage to slip off and ruin the bearings, so then I just had the sleeve in the e-shaft. I sat and broke all kinds of tools trying to get the mother out. Well I finally decided to dremmel the MF! I got most of it out but I guess there were these 2 ridges on the shaft that cause the new bearing to f-up when I put it in, so that one is f-ed up. How else can I get the rest of this POS, PITA, destroyed pilot bearing from the shaft?!?!?

I looked at it really close yesterday and I think that the back part is still in there. I got the act 6-puck with HD pressure plate from rotary secret.

Damn trigger happy

Since you are installing a new pilot bearing, get a screw driver and dismantle the bearing. That will get you more leverage on the lip. A puller should work now.
Or, if it's not too wedged in, use a screw driver (large) and pry it out. That usually works.
If not, and as a last resort, use a dremel to cut down on the lip and use a screw driver to pry it out.
If you have shaky hands or are not comfortable using a Dremel, don't do this as you might damage the E-shaft.

The wall on the pilot bearing is very thin. I don't think it's possible to leave the rear lip in there without pulling the whole piece out. Look closely and there should be a thin wall . That is part of the pilot bearing. If you can use a hammer and a screw driver , that piece should turn freely and should be able to pull it out. I've had this happen once.

HAHA sounds so familier. I had the same problem with my vert. Make sure you get the whole bearing out. There should be a lil lip where the pilot bearing stops in the eshaft. Make sure your not grinding that down with the dremel. If you have another pilot bearing puller you can try this. Spray the crap out of the hole with pblast. Then stick your puller in as far back in the eshaft as you can. Tighten it up. I had to use pliers to get it tight enough to actually grab the bearing. Put a small amount of downforce on the puller and tap that puppy out. If its that hard to get out your probably going to have just as hard of a time getting it back in. I broke two bearings trying to put them in. What worked the best for me is to get the polishing end on the dremel in there with some metal polishing compound. Polish the crap out of the inside of the eshaft. Makes sure it is smooth. Then spray it out really really good with brake cleaner to get out the grit(dont want that in your new bearing). Lube the crap out of the bearing and the eshaft hole. Try and slide the bearing in. Line it up and then tap it in with a rubber mallot or a hammer with a block of wood over the bearing. Once it is flush you can use a socket of the same size to tap in the bearing the rest of the way. If it isnt tapping in very easily dont beat it with the socket there. It will bend the bearing housing. Did that on my second attempt to put it in. I used a wooden rod that I picked up from the hardware store. Fit in the whole perfect and didnt damage the bearing. Good luck. They are a PITA!!!
