pics of my car and a question about porting

Hi,
I've finally uploaded some pics of my car. I'm located in Vic, Australia, and i plan to post alot so i just thought i'd air some details in case anyone is curious. It's a jap import car. Still trying to work out all it's little suprises. Seems to be running nice, my friends and i have basically just serviced it - oil, oil filter, fuel filter, flushed rad, sparkies, leads, new batt, that's it.
It's an 89 s5 FC turbo Savannah.

Some of the pics are from when she just arrived and she's covered in japanese dust, which has since been cleaned, polished and waxed
Only problem i'm having at the moment is a roaming idle when the lights are off, you turn the lights on and it starts fluctuating from 1krpm to 1.5krpm or so. Bad ground points i think, but i'll let the autoelec and mechanics decicde.
I'm putting it in for a good dynotune very soon.
Mods it has - HKS dragger exhaust, 3" all the way.
Coilovers, that are actually electronically controlled, not sure which company, havn't looked yet. Damn they're hard in sports mode, my god, spinal damage.
17" Enkei's
A blitz sequential boost controller with the handset MISSING!!! so dissapointed about that, trying to locate one but not finding it easy. So it's running stock boost we think, peak boost is 82 kg/cm2 according to a blitz dual turbo timer we got in there. Otherwise also reading a 0.6 on a HKS guage in the dash.
hks pod filter
A mazdaspeed strut brace on the rear, and a spats (don't ask me, never heard of them) strut brace on the front.
That's all i can think of atm, i;ve sold the razo pedals that were there and i've removed the stickers(panspeed and ats bm racing).
Some kind of aftermarket clutch is also on there which seems to have either a stuffed release (thruster) bearing, or some other problem that i'm yet to have worked out. It's still waiting for compliance! which is next week, and i'm planning all the work it'll need to get her perfectly healthy. Not too worried bout max power atm, just healthniess.
she's done 85, 000 kms, seems genuine, last service sticker on the air intake plastic moulding at 79, 000, also a service for 29, 000 kms on a little sticker in the petrol cap cover, no idea why it's there but it is. Engine seems to be running great, no smoke, heaps of power, just that weird idol problem and the clutch making horrible noises.

Also she MIGHT be ported, but we're not sure, we don't have enough experience with rotors to tell. I wanted to ask, does anyone know a fairly certain way of telling if it's ported. Sure sounds ported in idol, but that could just be a slightly lumpy idol due to not being in perfect tune... Sounds very 'braaap.braaap.braaap' while idoling. If ppl can be bothered, there's a couple of little pics that show the idol and driving sound, but she sounds a bit cleaner after the service, not as loud, but pretty much as lumpy, hopefully it's a good port job and not just a bad tune.

This is my dream car, i've waited a year and a half, catching freakin public transport while saving up and waiting, but i think it'll be worth it

Well, nice to meet you all, thanks for putting up with the long winded introduction, and hopefully i can contribute and learn alot from the forum.

Daniel.

Also, couple of things i forgot to mention.
It's got a panspeed alternator pully and belts.
And a panspeed sticker on the ecu, which seems like a stock ecu still as it's got the mazda badge, just a panspeed sticker, so it's either tuned or has a chip by panspeed i think.
Anyone know anything about panspeed??

The braaap sound is probably due to the fact that it's not idling properly (generally TPS, vac leaks, fouled plugs, throttle stuck slightly open, etc)

There's no way to tell if it's ported (short of it being a peripheral port and a custom intake) other than tearing the block apart.

have a listen on the clip if you can be stuffed, see what you think. But yeh i think you're right. I've bought the haynes manual and downloaded the service manual, and am trying to learn what i can, but i really don't know much about rotors, or even cars in general, so i'm way over my head, so i'm basically going to just ask the professionals.

But if you can be stuffed downloading and watching those clips, go for and let me know ur opinion.

Sounds like a vac leak/mistuned as much as I can hear, can't hear very well at work (speakers suck).

Start by reading through this, and follow the links that discuss idle issues:

Alright cool, hopefully the dyno will help. Oh also, we plugged up a vac leak after that, apparently from a turbo timer, the vac hose was just cut clean, and when i bought this second hand blitz turbo timer that measures boost, the hosing fit perfectly, so i guess it was a similar timer. So the idol sounds cleaner now bcoz of that too, but still very bubbly. I'll have to make a new clip and show u.

Neways, off to bed, have fun at work .

When the idle tends to 'hunt' from around 1k to 1.5k rpm, this is generally caused by a Bad/Misadjusted TPS (throttle position sensor).

Read about that here:
http://www.johnr.com/tps.html

If it idles too low, and doesn't want to increase, or when you put a load on the engine (electrical, turning the steering wheel/AC and it stalls/flucuates a lot) then try this (cleaning the bypass air controll valve)

weird thing is, it hunts from 1 to 1.5k rpm right, then you turn the full lights on, and it idles at 1 again perfectly. You can even just turn the lights on for a second, then turn them back to parkers, and the engine will stay idling perfect, but as soon as you turn them fully off again, starts roaming. So not sure, would dynotuners clean the bac?? They would definently adjust the tps right?? See i'm not worried about a power readout from the dyno, i'm only getting it dynoed to adjust the timing for aus petrol, less octance than jap, and to give it a really good healthy tune up. So maybe dynoing isn't the best go, maybe just go a normal tune up if the dyno guys wont touch the bac...

What does everyone think of that??
