Pic Request: Cruise Control

Can someone post up a picture of how the cruise control connects to the car. If it matters, S4 N/A (vacuum operated).

Thanks...

I'm actually curious as to how it bolts up to the firewall, but I appreciate the pics.

Oh.. Well, I added another one to that gallery, see if it helps.. but, I KNOW I have a pic of it. Hell. let me go take a pic of the car.

Edit.. took some pics of my parts car and put them in that gallery. The bolt on one side is busted off, but thats where it goes.

You are a ******* winner. Thanks a bunch.

Hmmm, it appears I have the wrong bracket or something. Also, that's on an S5, correct?

These are the only brackets I could find. The one on the left fits in the holes that yours does, but it doesn't have bolt holes for the cruise control to bolt onto.

The bracket closest to the actuator ALMOST looks right. It would bolt to the bulkhead/firewall with two bolts, one above the other, then the actuator would bolt to the top flange of that bracket.

It ALMOST looks right. Download the parts fische and look at the section called BODY, on page 2- H16. At the top of that pabe are the numbers 6640-1. I never learned how to read the parts fische right and that's the way it is out west.

I can't remember is my 86 n/a still has the vacuum actuator or if I put an electrical actuator in it. I might look tomorrow.

I was looking at that yesterday and noticed the bracket isn't the same as mine (66-330B). I know I have (had) the bracket somewhere because it was on the car when I bought it and I took it off because I didn't have a CC switch at the time. Ugh, it's so annoying because the bracket I have bolts right into the spot where 66-330B does.

Anyways, thanks for the help thus far micaheli and HAILERS.

I looked at my 86na.

It came without cruise.

I installed it from parts from the wreckyard.

The fwd leg of the actuator is bolted to the fender where there is a hole with nuplate.

It appears I drilled a hole in the flange on the bulkhead for the other attach hole. I looked at my 87 that WAS a na at one time and came with vacuuum operater cruise and there is NO hole in the flange on that car, so I must have drilled that hole in the flange and installled a bolt with nut. I'm assuming I must have bent the leg on the actuator for this to have worked.

The 87 NOW has the electric cruise and a electric bracket. So the old one is somewhere out in the shed most likely.

So. No help here except the knowledge that you could drill a hole in the bulkhead flange and install a bolt and nut to hold it in place. If I hadn't looked at the 87 car I wouldn't have been able to tell the 86 is installed *wrong* so to speak.

Or make a bracket out of scrap to bolt to the two holse on the bulkhead and have a flange on it to mate with the aft leg on the actuator.

Hmmm, so will the bracket I have work for that? I'm thinking I could drill holes (if it fits with the long arm going to near the charcoal canister) like in the attached picture.

Something like that. I just went and looked again. I only drilled one hole in the flange on the bulkhead and used the most inboard of those two holes on the actuator.

The long leg on the actuator, is going to a nutplate/hole that was already there below and aft of the strut tower. Near the canister, Works for me. A brkt would be even better....somehow.

Long leg fwd to the fender....two other holes going to the flange on the firewall/bulkhead. Like I say, I drilled only one hole and used a bolt and nut and left the other hole in the actuator just hanging out waiting for me to buy a brkt (gonna be a long wait).

I'll probabaly just end up getting the right bracket. I'm lazy and know where a parts car is.

I'll take it if it's the real deal...I've been in the same boat as Baby and following this thread with great interest.

BTW, as long as we're on the subject...the actuator I got is apparently for a turbo car (all electric, no vac line) and the cable is too long for my NA.

Will this unit work if I shorten the cable?

Lets make sure My5ABaby doesn't need it first since he's the OP.

The cold start assist bracket is where everything fits in.

I can take pictures of mine (S4, electric) if needed - I installed it from a friend's TII (he no longer had room for it, or it wouldn't fit, or something).

Remember, there are THREE parts to the cruise control - the actuator (either electric or vacuum), the lever in the dash, and the computer (up in the driver's footwell side area).

My cable is really long too. It's about 6 inches too long and I'm not really sure why. The electric and vacuum appear to be interchangable (going by what Syonyk said) so it should fit.

I'll pass on the deal and let clokker go for it.

Ok......... whoa now..... you lost me. So, the cold start assist bracket IS what I need? God I'm confused now. I do know that the bracket I have fits exactly in the only bolt holes on that side of the firewall and it even fits in the dirt/crud outline.

If I remember correctly, the cruise control bracket uses the same bolt holes as the cold start assist bracket. I don't have my cold start assist, so I'm not 100% sure how the brackets line up, but I do know they overlap.

Also, the turbo (electric) cruise control has a longer cable. It needs to wrap around the turbo manifold somehow. I just have mine ziptied off out of the way and looping around to use the excess - it works fine.

Interesting, so you would have 2 brackets using those same bolt holes?

I removed the cold start system. I'll take some pictures & get them posted online later tonight.
