Peripheral 13B Dyno test

Peripheral 13B Dyno test
· NEW ENGINE 13B PERIPHERAL PORT N/A:
-New turbo housing (1988)
-High compression rotors (1989)
-Racing Beat carbon seals, hardened stationary gears, high volume and pressure oil pump
-NASCAr style double pass Aluminium radiator, electric fan
-Stock oil cooler plus 2sd remote oil cooler
-Racing Beat Header with 3' pipe, Dynomax muffler
-2 55mm throttle bodies TWM Induction 3000 serie
-4 Rc 700cc injectors
-Stock coils and crank sensor
-Haltech E6K ECU
-Paxton fuel regular

After spending over 16 hours on the dyno, we got it !
Swat Performance of Lancaster, took on the task to map our Haltech for this peripheral.
We started with about 150Hp at the wheel.
Than with about 5 hours of play with the map we got 175Hp. Not Happy !!!
By talking to other persons, mainly Hitman in Australian, we discover that the right spark plug can increase horse power by 18 Hp.
After spending $230 in spark plugs, we ended up running some NGK with a temperature of 11.5. We were now at 231 at the wheel. "Can do more !"
Now it was time to redesign the intake and the header. Let's make them shorter !.
We went from a 19 inches Racing Beat header to a 8.5 inches custom made by Swat Performance, and also reduce the intake by about 4 inches. So, result: Worst !!!!
So we decide to try the old intake, but keep the short header...............261 HP At the Wheel !!!!!!
The exhaust still need more work, and I think we can get about 270 to 275 with a new exhaust and more time at the dyno shop.
I will keep you updated with the result.

More at: http://www.realride.com

P.S: Thanks, Swat Performance

It's run great, For a race car.
All the power start after 6000 rpm, and my rev limiter is set at 9300 rpm.

Why is the redline so low? Most PP engines I have seen are still making good power past 10K.

One more thing, you will get a broader torque curve by making the intake runners longer. You might lose a little top end, but with your rev limiter that low, it would probably make more usable power.

I'm running a stock oil system, to go over 10k I will have to run dry sum.

This is a race for road racing and endurance race.

Thx for tips, I will try a longer intake on the dyno.

The same thing applies for exhaust, too. The farther the collector is from the engine, the more the powerband will be shifted towards the lower rpm range. Hope the runing goes well.

Just curious, what oiling system mods do you have? A PP shouldnt have any problem running 10K rpm with a wet sump system, as long as you have the windowed main bearings and race rotor bearings, etc.

Another thing I noticed is that your throttle bodies seem a little small. Ive seen dual 58 mm recommended for bridge ported 4 port motors and PP engines.

Are you the same guy on the Haltech Support list?
It looks like your exhaust system is choking the engine...

hardened stationary gears, high volume and pressure oil pump.
I will set my rev limiter to 10 k, and do a run on the dyno to set what we will get as HP.

The next step is redoing the exhaust.
I will keep you posted.

No, I'm not in the haletch support list.

If you need help with Haltech, I will recomend Swat performance in Lancaster CA.

Mark? from swat performance is the guy who was keeping us upto date on the haltech list.

it just went to prove that custom made stuff makes more HP than 'off the shelf' stuff. the new headers gained 30HP.

Who did your porting and stuff? I have an n/a that I want to do the exact same thing to for the exact same reason, all motor roadracing. I'm in cali and am looking for a map to follow basically.

What do you think the lifespan will be of the motor and how much did the motor build run you?

THanks, Rishie

The porting was done by Pablo Mobius, included banlance and assembly for about $900.

I bought new housing from MAZDA Comp, for about 350 each.

If you help let me know and visit http://www.realride.com to see how we built it.
Thx
Good luck
