Performance upgrades for 87 n/a?

I just purchased an 87 rx-7 n/a with 85k and was wondering what the first performance upgrade should be. I'm new to the rx-7 community. thanks

Get the uncollected exhaust from mazdatrix.com
Most call them the "true duals" FOr a stock engine they are supposed to be the best exhaust.

This is the page they are on.

I will try and get a list of other things you can do to make your car faster.

Ok

Well you can get a good intake. YOu could use the intake adapter sold by the "store" and buy a cone filter from K&N. Pineapple Racing auxilary port sleeves are good too. remove all the emmisions system. Remove the A/c, PS, the stock fan, air pump, rats nest, stereo system, interior carpeting and sound profing material. Buy run flat tires and get rid of the spare and jack. Buy lighter seats some good springs and shox. Get better anti-swaybars, urethane bushings, strut tower bars. remove the sun roof if you have one. Switch to lexan windows instead of glass. remove dash and center console. Take off the front and rear bumpers and supports. Same goes for the tow hooks. I am drawing a blank other than that. but ther should be much much more.

You could also port your intake manifolds. when your engine blows or loses compression you can have it ported. A light flywheel, a better clutch, a short shifter kit. If you don't care about the rice look get some N2O buy an S-ACF and a wideband. Some bigger injectors will be needed if you heavily mod your car but not uf you just do bolt on stuff like me. Yeah I can still here the back fire when i let off. There are also some good things to do like get the aluminum hood or even a CF one but they are not cheap. Make or buy a cold air intake and get the fresh air headlight.

Don't listen to 'em!

Your first two mods should be to free up the exhaust and intake. WWW.RX7.COM has a terriffic replacement for the three catalytic converters - It's a single high-flow unit for about $335 with bolt-and-gasket set. They also have a real nice cone filter with adapters for $125.

That's less than $500 for very noticible performance increases.... Probably 25 ~ 30 HP or so.

('Just did these myself last week on my '88 'vert and I love it!!!)

Technically it should improve, but realistically its gonna drop dramatically, because you are always going to be getting into the gas now.

Well when I put on my exhaust. My mileage went up a little. Now that I pre-mix I have badass mileage. It increased by like 30 miles to the tank. I have always drivin fast with all the things I have done to it. I got about 291.5 miles to about 15.4 gallons I think that is like 20MPG I drive about 50/50 city/highway also so it is a good average.

My intake and high-flow cat were both Bonez from RX-7.com and included everything needed for the install. It sounds good, mileage improved by about 1~2 mpg and the the performance increase actually suprised me!
