Smile Performance for less

Hey, i was just wanting to ask about what all i can do to a 13B rotary engine to kick up some horsepower without shrinking my wallet. Basically i need some good mods that don't cost $4000, any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

WTF

who told you that mods cost 4g's?

I don't think I spent that much on mods for my Sport.
On a TII with that money you can go far.

what range are you looking to spend? a rebuild with street port will yield good results and be better in the long run. most people decide to go turbo -- i have. that's a whole other route. most would say to buy a T2 in the first place, but i'm keeping my 91 N/A and doing a swap.. eventually.

Sorry, failed to mention mine is a non-turbo. I'm looking for things within the range of $100- $200. I just need some things to get me started, the bigger more expensive mods will come later. (like the turbos) And by the way, in response to the $4000 comments, go to www.srmotorsports.com there you'll find a $4000- $5000 turbos. I just want some help, not sarcasm, please, i'm just a beginner right now thats trying to learn a thing or 2 from here.

Maintenance, advance timing ~15*, get light stock wheels if you have aftermarket ones, build a cold air intake if you are handy, check the sixth ports because they get frozen once in a while, and you can install a header.

Don't mind the rx7guy . . .

Start with a good tune-up then follow 88integra's advise. When your ready to rebuild a streetport will be in order.

Another thing you should get is a new exhaust system. Get rid of the whole cat/precat setup and get better cat-backs. It may be more than you're wanting to spend now, but its a good, relatively easy mod.

Go bridge port when the time comes. engine may have a slightly shorter lifespan as comepaired to a streetport , but more "fun" is there when you need it.

Install aftermarket conical filter, full exhuast upgrade. why am i still typeing when 88integra nailed what should be done.....

If you have a TII then you don't need much money to have a decent car. But I am guessing you do not have a TII. FIrst thing you do is do the 60k mile tune-up and then start modding. If you only have 200 bucks spend it on fixing things not mods. Its a big mistake to do mods when there are existing problems with the car. Given your car is in good shap then I would say get a Bonez race pipe or a header. Those will give you a big jump in power for the money.

Santiago

PS- the sarcasm wasn't about you it was just a reference to that stupid movie and how many people think that something like an engine management system costs 10k dollars. When you can get one for a fith of that or less.

Wow, all of this is really helping, thanks a lot. And BTW, just to give you someone to cuss out, i would like to hear your response to a certain thing my friend said..... He says RX7s of any type could never ever run with a Supra, or a Vette or anything, he claims they are slow, even when fixed up, i want to hear your reactions to this..... so fire away ya'll, i'm gonna love this, esp. when he sees it. So please, esp. use all the FACTS you can in proving him wrong please.

Your friend is partly right. Some RX-7's are much faster than others. Non turbo 7's range from 17 second quarter mile times to low 14 second. That is a big range. Turbo II's range from low 16 (out of tune stock S4) to 12 or even 11 second range. The RX-7 has a lot of potential and can be intelligently modded for not a lot of money. They can be stripped down to 2300 pounds or less.

I wouldn't waste your time with a hating poser like that goofball who was trying to get a reaction from you. Just build your car following intelligent advice which you can find by researching (with the search function) topics here and applying them to your RX-7. In my opinion, the car will speak for itself when you create something special. If you build another 14 second NA, it will be quicker than a lot of factory stock sports cars and modded Hondas.
