passenger power window problem

1987 TII RX7

Previously my passenger window had not always worked from the passenger side, but always had worked on the driver's side. However, after opening the window on a very cold day the window managed to go down a few inches, but not back up. For some reason i then proceded to keep opening the window until it was fully open. I'm not sure if the window motor is broken or if it's just the switches or wiring. I currently just want to somehow raise the window and lock it in the up position and fix the cause of the problem at a later date because my car is undriveable due to outside weather and security issues.

I've read a lot of the posts on testing/fixing problems that might be the cause and am going to test them, however I still would like some input on how to

1. Raise the window to the up position.
2. Lock it in the up position.

Pull off the door panel, take off the plastic sheeting where the GIANT hole is, reach in, lift the glass up, locate small hole in line with one of the bolts holding the glass onto the guide, remove the bolt, stick a screwdriver through both holes, and go to sleep.

After taking off the door panel, there was no plastic sheeting, which leads me to believe that there was a previous problem with this window. As far as "reach in, lift the glass up" I can't seem to lift the window up with any amount of force. Does the motor lock the window at a place on the track, in the sense that because the motor is not on it therefore prevents any movement along the track?

how do the two metal pieces go back into the other piece. it seems that the way the pieces are designed/balanced, the sides are always touching one side of either the silver or copper connectors.

note to self...remember how part was taken out...to know how to put back in

Glad to hear you got it fixed. I cleaned both pass and driv switches and it helped make mine come back to life. Unfortunatley, the cable snapped on my driver's side, but I rebuilt and learned a lot. Nice photos, kinda look like the one's I have. I can't remember if I posted those or not.

Today I decided to chance it and opened up the driver's side window for drive-through food. At least this time I didn't open up the window all the way. Thankfully I know how to fix it this time.

Also, those are your photos. I searched the forum and found the links to your site. Did you rebuild the window motor?

No, I didn't rebuild the motor. Like some of the more knowledgeable members have stated, the motor is usually not the thing that fails. Its either the switches get "carbonized", or the cable snaps. Glad to hear you got the problem fixed.
