Part swapping: BAC's and Rear End's
Part swapping: BAC's and Rear End's
Two Questions. One, will an s5 BAC work on and s4 electionically? I know that physically it will bolt on and the inlet pipe is facing the wrong direction. I can work around that. And two, will any N/A rear end swap DIRECTLY into any other N/A FC? For my purposes this would be a 88 GTU rear end with LSD going into a 88 vert.
I tried searching but many different combinations of S4, S5, BAC, and swap didn't provide much
.
Thanks for the help.

With the rear end swap, yes it will, but you'll have to get the driveshaft spaced correctly before you install the new diff. unless you're talking about the entire rear end uncluding the driveshaft, in which case yes no problem

All the N/A differentials will swap in with no modifications, you DO NOT need to change out the driveshafts. You keep the driveshaft that came with the transmission.
The BAC can be exchanged, the only thing you will need with it is the electrical plug for it. The S5's have an oval plug and the S4's have a rectangular plug.
it will be too short or too long by a very small margin, just factory inconsistencies. The diff will drop in, but you'll notice a sound from the diff while driving if you dont space it. spacing it requires expensive dial gauges, so if it were me id probably take it to mazda.
i didnt say he'd have to swap the driveshaft, just space it correctly (putting spacers the driveshaft gear.)

Are you trying to say he will have to set the backlash?
And, if he exchanges the whole pumpkin, why would he have to set the backlash?
backlash THATS the word i was looking for. No, if using a new pumpkin then the backlash would be fine

1980's 7, you do not have to respace anything. Just drop one and replace it with another.
Inmywhitetii, I think you have your terminology all wrong. The FCs have IRS, you do not have to open out the diff case to change out the rear ends. check the FAQ or the manual or look under your car
