Paint

Anyone in Minnnesota know where I can get a Good paint job without bending over? Ive been quoted as high as $2500 for a complete paint job. What should I do?! Is it even worth painting if I only paid $2500 for the Car?

And No I wont go to Macco....ewww

For that much I would buy an air compressor and paint it my self, that is what I am going to do one day. Paint is only like $500 for 6 quarts of pearl white, and the primer. And no one will put as much time and care into the car as the owner. If you take it to a paint shop they are out to make money so they get it in and out as soon as they can so that they can be off to the next car. And that doesn't always make for a good paint job, there are alot of little mistakes when you hurry with stuff like that. My mom took her car to a very expensive paint shop in Augusta GA, and when she got it back it looked like ****!! She showed it to the manager of the shop, and bitched for a couple of minutes and they painted it again, got it back the second time and it was worse!!! She had it repaint by the people 3 times, and they did that on the cost of one paint job, but the paint that is on the car now still doesn't look all that good, because they didn't tape off every thing and there are a couple of runs in the paint to. So for that much do it your self.

If you do try to do it your self just learn how buy doing the primer coat, if you get a run in it you can sand it out, but I don't know of any good body shop web sites. Just call around to paint and body shop supply stores and ask them for recomendations.

Before you jump off and do-it-yourself. Do YOURSELF a favor and educate yourself about the dangers of the paints you will be working with. ISOCYNATES can and WILL kill you if the proper precautions are not utilized. THE BEST protection is a force-fed respirator set-up Cost ~$500.00

Compressor:500-1500
Decent Gun: 400
Da Sander 100
2K Primer: 90
2K Surfacer: 90
Prep Wash: 15
5 gal laq. Thinner for clean-up: 30
Sandpapers and Tape/Masking paper: 60

Thats 1800 to get started, Now what are you going to Spray in? A DIY plastic booth will cost ~200 to build and you haven't got an exhaust fan yet. Have you ever priced explosion proof motors?
