Padding?

Okay so.. Since I was told to keep my S4 N/A by a few people, I said okay and kept it. But I wanted to gut out my car so I started on the project. Took off my carpet and everything. But I found out a problem.

Under the carpet, there was padding. Under the padding, there was this thing glued to the car. I was told it's sort of like a shock absorber for my seats but it's starting to rip.

I heard people use dry ice to have it peeled off but it's probably too expensive for me to buy and I have no clue where to get it.

Is it necessary to keep on my car? Will it benefit in any way? Or can I just take it off and just not have to worry about it?

If so is there a different method to take it off or must I use dry ice? If dry ice is a must, how do I get it? Thanks!

I think I read somewhere that kerosene works well too.

kerosene will take off the residue after you have removed the bulk. It is sound deadening used to keep the inside of the car quieter. I believe the difference in sound is slightly noticeable without it. If this is just a fun sporty car I would not worry about it. If you are making a track car you can remove it although there is less than 10lbs of this stuff inside the car. Dry ice can sometimes be bought at your local grocery store but if they don't carry it you can talk to the butcher to see if he will give you some. I bought it for $1 a lb from a store near me.

To use just put it on the section you want to remove and break up a chunk with a hammer into a course powder and let it sit till most of it sublimates. Then remove what is left and tap the sound deadening with the hammer. Grab a chisel and start chipping away at it. Use kerosene and a scotch brite pad to to remove the residue.

It's sound deadening material- it keeps large flat panels from thrumming with vibration and dampens noise from the road (rocks, water, etc.).
I can't see any advantage to removing it from a street car.

Hmm.. Sounds like it would help.

From a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the loudest and 10 being the quietest, what would the level of each be?

Also I don't want to keep it because the last idiotic owner chipped away half of it and decided to cover the rest so it's starting to come off. Not to mention the retard left oil on it so now it's spreading throughout the whole thing.

So I want to remove it but I don't want my car to be extremely loud. ~THANKS!

You can remove it and lay down aftermarket sound deadening.

Without sound deadening material, you will hear every grain of sand hitting the bottom of your car. I hope you like noise!

Well I finished taking out the rest of my carpet in the front. Noticing that a lot of the sound deadening is ripping out. Not to mention more oil. Thanks to the retard that owned it before me, I'm fucked now. Now I have to have rust removed and have the whole interior repainted. The previous owner must have been a ******* mechanic.

Honestly, I don't have any other choice but to rip out all my sound deadening and try to find some aftermarket deadening, if any. Can anyone direct a place where I may purchase some aftermarket deadening if possible? Thanks!

Also I must buy some dry ice and I was told it is purchasable at my local Albertson's, so yay!

Anyways.. The sound deadening thing is really ticking me off. Having it will mean that my car will be quelled a lot more than without the deadening. But if I keep it, it'll only soak all those oil from the cracks of it.

Help / answers will be appreciated!
