Unhappy Overheating Problem!! please help..

so here's the thing, about a week ago my radiator broke down, it started leaking bad..so i got another one..so now i install it and connect everything..and take it out for the first spin and it starts overheating like 3/4 up real fast..so i popped the hood and it was spilling water from the reservoir tube..one thats like "L" shaped down..and they told me it was the radiator cap..or the thermostat..so i changed the thermostat..which was all rusty..and so im like hey finnally..and i start it again..and it still spills out..by now i go buy a motor rad cap which holds 16 lb..and now..i started it up again and it started over heating real slow..but i turned it off like about 3/4 again..but it's not spilling any water..whats the problem..???

you have air in your cooling system ..you need to drain and refill.. I'm guessing an air pocket is causing the overheating..since you said that you replaced the rad and refilled with coolant..my $.02..anyone?

I totally agree, air in your system, but draining it will not solve the problem. Go to archives at the top of page, and several very good write ups on this subject.

Remove the rad cap with the engine cold. Start the car and rev the engine slightly. Do you see bubbles coming up in the filler hole? Is the coolant foamy or off color? If so, you may have a blown coolant seal in the engine. If the coolant is clear and the bubbles go away eventually, the problem could be air in the coolant system, which should eventually dissipate as the coolant is circulated with the cap off.

If it's warming up (from cold) faster than it was before the change, then I'd imagine it's air lock. The thermostat is closed at those temps anyway.
