Overboosting

I finally brock in my rebuild and today I was driving on the highway and gave it floored the pedal a little and the boost gauge read all the way to about 15psi So i really freaked out because I hope I didn't want to mess up my motor. I have rtek 1.8, corksport 80mm downpipe, stock turbo, turbo xs hpbc. I checked to see if the boost controller was on the lowest setting and it wasn't so I adjusted it and drove the car again. Still no luck the boost just keeps on rising and i'm not even at 6,500 rpm. I can't even WOT or the boost would really go up!!! Why is my boost so High, it seems like the boost controller isn't working.

Is your wastegate opening? Is it stuck somehow? Is your boost guage plumbed correctly?

Did you port your wastegate?

What series?

Either:

1. You need to port the wastegate. You're getting insane boost creep
2. Vacuum line disconnected from WG actuator
3. Bad WG actuator

#3 happened to me after I got my car running.

My boost gauge is connected to a UIM nipple. And the vacuum lines connected to the WG are fine. Nope the WG is not ported, maybe I should check to see if WG is bad.

Well I dont think the WG actuator is stuck since I can move it with my hand. If there is boost creep won't the boost drop?

Oh, I always thought boost creep meant the boost would drop.

boost creeps up and if the waste gate gets overwhelmed by exhaust it cant do its job leading to high boost, bad AFRs and ultimately blown engines

So I ported the wastegate and still very high boost at 5,000 rpm im hitting 13+psi. It seems like after porting its gotten better but man this sucks. Maybe a high flow cat would help. Why would my boost still be so high?
