out of curiosity...
Now Im reasonably sure Im gonna get flamed, but I dont mind right now...I was looking at the opelgt forums (Im swapping a T-II into my opel) and saw that a guy on there is putting the stock turbo from a 02 wrx on his opel and so i thought that thatd be a cool idea for my T-II...my reasoning is that its way newer than my turbo, way less miles, cheap, and i assume that itd prob spool up faster. Also, the engine bay in the opel is so constricted that I might need to build a new manifold to relocate the turbo, so I figured why not a new one with similar specs...of course, I dont know the spec contrast of the two turbos, but given the ej20's displacement and power, I assume theyd be similar.

A rotary has very different demands turbo-wise than a typical piston engine. I'm not terribly well versed in turbo geekery, but I know that the turbos we use on '7s are significantly larger than what (non-rotary) people tend to think the engine should spool.
If you can get all the specs for the turbo, and understand how they relate, you could answer your question. :-)

no I believe he is asking if a wrx turbo is of the same demension's and output as a rx7 turbo so he can custom fab it for his turbo II swap into his Opel GT so are these turbos about the same beside over 10 years of age

So ur taking teh 13bt out of ur TII and putting it in ur Opel and then taking a ej20tt and putting it in ur TII? Why dont u do it easier and just keep teh 13bt in ur TII and put teh ej20tt in ur Opel?

1.Basically yes, I would like to know if it would be beneficial to mount the stock turbo from an ej20 on my T-II, or if not beneficial if I could make the same boost but have better spool up time. (I will do a search for compressor maps when I get back home today)
2. Opel is a European car company owned by GM. They havent sold anything here since 1975ish and my car is a 1970. More recently they have built interesting things like the Opel Speedster turbo and its English derivative the VX220 Turbo...nothing quite like 911 c4s acceleration from a GM Ecotec powered car.
3. No, I am taking the engine out of my (wrecked) T-II and hoping that perhaps the stock ej20 turbo might fit it...my engine has 178k miles, has been rebuilt, but the turbo has not. Even if I wanted to mount a ej20 in my Opel, there will be very little room to spare (width-wise) on the T-II swap (maybe none...hence wanting to possibly move the turbo) so a horizontally opposed four definitely would not work.
4. I realize that the rotary has different demands, which is why Im not looking at say a KKK-K03 turbo from an audi 1.8T.
I should be able to look up some compressor maps tonight...the Scoob turbo is the TD04.
Thanks,
Rob

Lives on the Forum
The turbo is too small.
I believe stock WRX is like an IHI RX5 or a Mitsubishi TD05?
The stock FC turbo Hitachi HT-18 is bigger than both.
Sure, it's newer, but it's not bigger.
