Question OS twin clutch problems

I just got my Rx7 running for the first time in a year, and the clutch isn't releasing fully. The clutch is a used OS Giken twin plate that I found in a Jspec. It almost feels like the rod in the slave cylinder isn't long enough, except the slave cylinder I'm using is from the transmission that the clutch was shipped with. And anyway, I thought the OS Giken unit was a direct replacement for the stock clutch and flywheel?

Also, when the car's running and I fully depress the clutch, theres a slight grinding noise coming from the transmission.

Ok, I tried the obvious fix by adjusting the clutch pedal rod, and now it shifts ok, but the grinding noise is worse.

Both the pilot and throwout bearing are fairly new, though its the stock throwout bearing. The mazdaspeed one is different?

Thanks for the help.

Also, is it going to damage anything besides the old throwout bearing if I drive it as is?

if its grinding then you are wearing on the gear teeth. try to double clutch your revs. if you are gonna grind at every shift that might end up doing some damage.

The noise happens when the clutch is depressed, regardless of if I'm trying shift. Still, I'm going to go on the assumption that grinding = bad and park it.

i'm not too sure, but doesnt the O.S. system need some sort of adapter for it to work properly on the tranny. check their website because i think they sell some sort of adapter that is necessary for it to work properly. I have an O.S. gikken, but it came with it already installed.

one more thing, you'd better get a ss braided clutch line otherwise your gonna start dealing with a swollen line very soon.

i have two os giken twin plates in two FCs (turbo) and they both have stock throw out bearings.... no grinding and they release fine... you might have one of the disks in wrong. pull the tranny and check it

They are a noisy clutch once they have some miles on them, the plates tend make a mettalic rattling sound when depressed, nothing to worry about, and you dont need a special throw out bearing either, the stock one works fine with it..max

Well, the transmission is out. Can someone show a diagram or plate assembly order? Is the MS or OS T/O bearing a differnt dia. or thicker?

J2LA has an OS twin IIRC, if you cannot solve your problem he is very helpful. Carl
