OMP working too good?

so irecently disconnected the omp lines in order to remove the water pump housing. when i removed that only the alt and the sensor in the back of the housing were ulplugged. both plugged back in now. but anyways when i go to start my car in the morning after its sat all night i cant seem to get the car to start. it just cranks and cranks and cranks. kinda tries to start up but never does. eventually it will start and there is just a giant and i mean giant cloud of smoke once it does. but whats odd is the whole time in cranking it over its smoking too as if it is burning gas. it just started to do this. used to start everytime no problem. and now its hard to get it to start and it sputters every once in a while when im really getting on it now.
its an 87 base. bone stock, minus my exhuast mod

I suspect the water termo sensor on the back of the water pump housing is not plugged in or is barely making contact. If disconnected it makes for difficult starts with a COLD engine.

Once the engine is fully hot, it should start much better because the default value for a disconnected water thermo sensor is....176*, the same as a normal warmed up engine.

A sure fire way to tell if it's connected up and sending a signal to the ECU, is to back probe pin 2I on a series four car. Should read, when cold, approx 2-3vdcd. IF it reads 4.5 to 5v, then it's not connected up or not making contact with the sensor.

Plugs have to be connected to the ECU and the key to ON when doing the above.

thank you hailers! ill give that one a try in the morning. what i really need to do tho is get a new connector, as mine is busted i do believe. the only way to do so is to cut and splice in a new one right? and also does it have to be S4? or is it interchangeable with an s5? cause i have access to a S5 and anything else i'd have to drive a ways to :/

The water thermo sensors are the same for s4 and s5.

The wires come out of the plug. You press down on a plastic tab inside the connector and pull on the wire. So if you have another car, you can pull the elect plug off that one and put it on yours, I'm pretty sure of that.

Or if that does not work you could just splice the wires together. But wires are removable from the electrical plugs. Plus that plug is similar to fuel injector elect plugs if that helps.
