OMP = Suckatality
My omp is going out. What solutions do I have? A brand new one for a S5 is 1400. I could buy a jdm engine instead and have an omp, a turbo, and a whole F*** engine. I am really ticked off at my car and at mazda for selling the omp for the same price as a new engine. What is up with that? Any way sorry for the rant. Does anybody have any ideas?

I'd run premix and just have the OMP plugged in, it must stay plugged in for the car to run properly.
If the OMP is failing and causing the ECU to go into "limp mode" then you'll have to buy another one anyways.

I'd sell you my S5 OMP, but I need it to keep the ECU happy.
Check the forsale section, they are avaiable all the time.
BTW: Premix all the way Though you're still screwed if its throwing you into limpmode.

Yes, only S5's have limp mode, you gotta do the drip test per FSM for S4's. I don't have the book in front of me right now but I know it's not hard to do.

The only way to tell if your S4 OMP has died is when your engine blows up and you notice the apex seals have seized.
The S4 OMPs rarely go out, they're mechanically driven by a gear inside the front cover, the S5 or electric and is controlled by the ECU. The motor goes out on the S5 and send the ECU into limp mode...assuming the ECU picks it up, i've heard that on occasion it won't pick up the dead OMP.
