old hks stuff
ok, i recently purchased an 87' turbo II, it has hks cat-back, blow off valve, and mbc. I was wondering if this hks stuff works???, the mufflers aren't straight through. looks like 2.25" piping. the bov was painted black and doesn't look to complecated. just a little cannister with a screw on top and a vent. i was wondering what the screw on top was for. And does the manual boost controller actually do anything, i can't tell a seat of pants difference. anybody have experiance with older aftermarket goodies???

its not to make it louder. its to set when the air is released, which can cause it to get louder. but if your car is operating fine I wouldn't go messing with that.

HKS makes good stuff. Don't mess with the BOV setting because if it opens when the turbo isn't producing boost, then it will suck unfiltered air into your engine. In my opinion, any MBC is potential trouble in the wrong hands, and I recommend that you turn it down all the way or remove the MBC completely.

While I think we'd all like EBC's, ball and spring MBC's do serve a useful purpose. It's a pain in the *** to adjust, and doesn't adjust to changing weather conditions...but it is very cost effective. If someone doesn't have the patience to slowly raise an mbc to their desired boost level they shouldn't be driving an rx7 in the first place. I like to assume those who buy turbo FC's have some common sense and at least a tiny degree of mechanical inclination, maybe I shouldn't.
