OK to remove AAS wireing?
OK to remove AAS wireing?
So Im redoing the wireing looms on my car, resplicing some bad wires etc. Anyway, I was looking at the harnesses for the AAS and realized that they really dont' need to be there. After looking at the wireing diagram it looks like they arn;t connected to any power or anything else for that matter. The car never had it so there isn't a fuse for it or the computer in the back end (may have to check that for curiosity sake).
So, is there any reason for me to not remove them? I plan on just cutting the wires then covering the cut peices under the new loom.
I just wanna make sure there is nothing I am missing that may screw things up.
Thanks
AUG

Go ahead and take it out. If you dont have the AAS, it's fine. And even if you do, theres a 99% chance that it doesn't work anyways, so it wont effect anything at all. You should probably replace your 20 year old worn out struts anyways.

The AAS is powered by the three fuses shown in the jpgs. Power is on those actuator plugs up front and rear.
Plus the plugs for the control panel and the plug for the AAS Unit have power on them. See jpgs

Thanks hailers, I was hoping you whould chime in here. I guess I'm just going to go with plan A: but make sure that nothing can short, liquid electical tape comes to mind.
Cut the power wire clean. Buy some shrink tubing that fits that size wire, from Radio Shack. Put a half inch of it over the end of the wire with some past the wire end. Heat it with a lighter/match/butane torch, til it shrinks over the end and covers it up.
Someone makes deadend caps using shrink tubing material. The AF uses it, Boeing uses it. Lockhead uses it. Even Mc Donald Douglass (I'm not sure they exist anymore).
Or do what you said above.

Thanks for the vote of confidence hailers. I love that pict of the T-bird driver punching out. ANYWAY, I know about heat shrink tubing, I use it when I solder a splice or need to wrape more then one wire etc. Hell I bought some today. I did not know about the deadend caps though, those would be perfect.
I've actually decided that for right now I'm just going to finish the Main engine harness, and leave the AAS wireing for a little later, like when I get around to the other side of the engine wiring. Gota order some injector plugs so that I can fix my BAC valve wiring and a few other little things. It really is frustrating that the main harness is so damn much.
On a side note I was really surprised how good of shape my Main harness was after I pulled off the crunchy tape, and unwound everything. The only breaks I found where the ones that I already knew of where it branches to the O2, bac, AVC connectors. Its all wrapped up with self sealing tape and new tubing to protect it so hopefully it will last another 20 years (holds breath)
