My mods to my '88 Vert as a glimps of a non-performance view point:

- One touch power windows.
- PIAA Fog lights, 1500's for stock like fit, Factory switch.
- Correct all those nasty cold solder joints (a.k.a. Gremlins)
- '78 Cosmo wood steering wheel and hand brake lever.
- Headrest speaker seats in cloth.
- Keyless entry and locking (Mazda factory cylinoids (sp?) both doors)
- LSD with 4.1 gearing.
- S5 Gas tank (just to see if it could be done)
- Remote mount Radar Detector

- Upgraged factory sound system

Fabricated DIN plug so Sony CD changer would plug directly into the factory head unit so it all behaves like it was stock. Control unit in hollowed out ash tray.

Boom Tube in the behind seat enclosure.

Door woofers replaced with aftermarket speakers

Auto-mute when my cell phone rings.

Anyone interested in how I did any of the above, ask and feel safe my response will only be constructive.

Mod to do sometime soon:

- T2 retro-fit into Vert (All verts should have been T2 because of the extra weight)
- 89-91 T2 16" wheels (16" is better than 15")

I've been driving RX7's exclusively since 1980 since I truely belive piston engines ARE best used for Farming equipment.

No "Rice", no "Fast and Furious" (well, maybe my GSL-SE when I'm done), just making my RX7 better.

Dont know about any of you guys, but I havent done A SINGLE mod to my car that is not performance-oriented:

- new clutch, brakes, tires
- rebuilt turbo
- K&N intake
- dual catback
- FCD (still thinking about this)
- removed *some* weight
- aftermarket gauges

Even the Momo shift-**** was installed AFTER cutting the lever a bit, so that shifts are a bit shorter, the Sparco pedals were neceassary because the stock plastic ones were almost gone, and the steering wheel....well, thats not yet in

ooopps, forgot about the AIWA MP3CDR, but then the car didnt have a audio system when I bought it

I guess you can call me an "all-go-no-show" freak, although my TII is PERFECT on the outside and the inside

Um.. the only non-performance mod I have is a Autometer temp guage since the stock S5 guage is a 3-position engine frier (sp?).

You seem like the type who likes to tinker with stuff for the sake of it.

I wish I was that way, my car would have all kinds of neato integrated gizmos.

I think the most ricey thing someone can do to the interior of the car is cutting the lever. It might take out like a cm of how far you have to move the ****, but you tend to gain the "gangster lean" and I don't see why pople don't just spend the $100 on a short shifter that was actually MADE to reduce how far you have to move it.

Ummm, did you read my post ? Did you look where I'm located ? Have you seen my other posts ? Have you seen the interior of my car, to see if it is indeed "riced-out" ?

"you dont see why people dont just spend the $100 ?" if you can find the short-shifter for the '92 TII in Europe, I'll buy one.

Until then, keep your short-shifter, and I'll keep my cut shifter.

Taking it back to the original post, HozzmanRX7, I would be interested in finding out more on the keyless entry and factory Mazda solenoids (spelling correct and its not even a curse word, WOW)! Please!

Kevin, how are you? Things are going great with the automatic, I fixed it, but you were absolutely right about every one of the things you mentioned about auto's. I'm going to sell the GXL.

I would like to see how you have that Boom Tube and where exactly it is and how it's mounted if possible. I am looking for a way to improve the sound system without spending a ton of money or extensive customization.

If you take a passenger door silenoid from a junk yard Rex, it is easy to reverse the mounting plate so it mounts stock into the drivers door. The holes are already there for mounting. Be sure and grab the little plastic snap holder for the push rode that attaches to the door locking mechanism.

You'll see the plate is held on at the corners with nuts and bolts the go all the way through the caseing. Just remove the nuts and bolts, cut the tape that wraps around, and remount on the opposite side of the casing.
Push in the door snap into the locking mechanism, insert rod, and snap in place. Everythings lines up like factory original.

For keyless entry, I used the actuating function of my aftermarket alarm. You'll need to disconnect the passenger door silenoid from the factory harness and reconnect it and the drivers door silenoid to the alarm per the installation instructions. Set the "pulse" from the alarm brain to the shortest time setting. Now, set the alarm, doors lock. Disarm the alarm, doors unlock.

Bonus to this set up. After you lock the doors by setting the aftermarket alarm, you can then arm the factory alarm simply by opening then closing your trunk. So, you have double protection. If someone disarms the factory alarm with a "black box", then when the doors automatically unlock it will set off the factory alarm. Love this extra piece of mind when I'm leaving my Rex in a questionable parking area.

For your Vert, I highly recommend you also install an area motion sensor. That way you can leave your Vert parked with the top down, but the alarm will sound if someone trys to reach inside.

I used to install motion sensors in all my cars.
this would be so that I could leave the windows down on hot days too.

Heck I did that back in my DeVry days (1989-90) using a radio shack home motion detector!

Just make sure that they arent infra red motion detectors.

A hot car will blind them.
