oil in shifter

oil in shifter

should there be oil around my shifter? i took mine out to check out my shifter bearings and there is alot of oil in there.....

Ya, it should be just over the pocket the ball at the end of your shifter sits in.

without lubrication the shifter wouldn't last very long.

also ny shifter has to be pulled into gear weird... like the spacing is off... are they all lke this?

Pulled into gear? If you mean what I think you do, you might ust need to replace the bushings.

I've never seen an extension housing filled from the factory.
If the transmission fluid hasn't been serviced, it's usually dry.
The Mazda FSM recommends filling it with trans fluid though...
Go figure.

I've always wondered that. My TII is dry but my GTU is filled. Everybody I've asked says to have oil in it. Odd.

Maybe it's one of those thing where the dealer was supposed to do it when they got the car, and most never did? Stranger things have happened.
