Oil Seals/ Water Seal - diagnosis here

Oil Seals/ Water Seal - diagnosis here
Read all I can on the forum about smoke but need a diag. to my problem:
Upon sitting more than 24 hourscar smokes for about 60 seconds...thick white (maybe some blue, but not real dark) . Then quits. However, keep it in neutral and rev up above 5K rpm and it smokes again, afterburns couching kicks in (almost like a backfire) before idling down. Coolant levels are fine and no oil I can see in there, but it does seem to be burning more oil.
So the questions are:
1) What's the diagnosis? I'm thinking oil seals.
2) How long do I have before the engine goes?
3) What I can do to prolong it or hide the smoke best if I trade in
Engine only has 96K on it darn it.
