Oil Pump Question

ok so i was thinking about ordering an oil pump for my S5 vert as my oil pressure seems to be a bit low here lately and i was wondering if the oil pump would be interchangeable with a turbo block. ill get ordering a Turbo engine in a few months and i would like to be able to use the new pump when i rebuild the engine. i guess since im on the topic what other pumps might i be able to swap like water pump. any help would be great

Luckily, the factory oil pump almost NEVER fails. The turbo oil pump is different though if I am not mistaken. Now as far as your pressure readings, if they are based on the factory gauges, do not rely on them. They are not know for accuracy. Confirm your readings with a mechanical gauge. Low oil pressure typically is caused by fuel-diluted oil (from flooding) or bearing damage (normally from fuel-diluted oil). It can be from a damaged gasket between the pick up tube and the engine, or by too much silicone gasket maker on the oil pan making its way onto the screen and clogging it.

A new oil pump is not necessary during a rebuild, but a new water pump would be a must during a rebuild.

far as i know the Turbo oil pump has the same bolt pattern. the only difference is it puts out more volume.

however, i agree. your pressure issue is NOT likely to be pump-related. start with the pressure sensor and associated wiring. maybe you just need an oil change.

the turbo does lave a larger volume pump, and it will bolt to the NA engine.

however, its VERY robust, if you're loosing pressure its doubtful its the pump.

thanx for the response guys. i have been going of of my OE gauge and i know that they arent accurate but im used to the OE gauge being at 60 at cold start which it still does and being at 30 at idle( now down to like 5 almost 0 at times) and while driving it used to stay betweeen 45 and 60( now at 30-45). when im in 5th on the highway it sits at 30 or slightly under 30. as far as the fuel diluted oil goes ive changed my oil twice in the last 1500 miles so i thing i should be ok there.

Low oil pressure can be caused by failure of the front cover o-ring (www.mazdatrix.com/faq/oring.htm) or failure of the eccentric shaft thermal bypass pellet.

I highly suggest you stop driving your car until you get the problem sorted out.
